Trouble with Terrain Editor
« on: June 07, 2003, 12:39:22 PM »
Having some trouble, and hoping someone can help.  I just Downloaded and installed Terrain Editor, and printed out the help file so it is handy.  I have a great idea for a map, created an outline of it and merged it with the grid, all precisely according to the steps in the help file.  Then created the folder in TE, copied the *.bmp to the folder as instructed, and reopened TE.  When I click on open, select my folder and then the *.oba file, it opens a blank map with no outline of the map I made.  Is the idea of making this *.bmp in the first place so there are reference points to create a map?  I click on the grid box, and it shows me the 1 sq mile grids.  Am I missing something here?  Please help if you have some pointers for me!  Thanks in advance!

Firstly, make sure you put it in the texscr folder, and named as the name of your map.

Secondly, make sure it is saved in 256 colour mode.

Haven't gotten TE to work yet. Seems it either hates XP or HP Compaqs.

Thanks!

I'll try changing the color depth if its higher, and putting it in the texscr folder

I'm running '98 SE on a Dell, so that shouldn't be an issue.

If I have more problems you'll probably see another posting.

XP blows.. i have it too. I couldnt get it to work at first.. so i took the long way home.

download TE and installed: didnt work
removed TE and AH (dont lose your keymaps)
poked around w/ registry but dont recall changing anything.
reinstalled DX8
installed TE and AH again.. it worked.
dont know why.. but it did.

Argh .... sounds like a real pita. As much as I'd like to try my hand at it, I think I'll just try to think up some possibilities and try to sell the ideas to those who already got it to work. :(
