Killshooter
« on: June 17, 2003, 07:50:37 AM »
Im not sure if this has been brought up elsewhere on this forum, so i'm making it a new topic.

Firstly i think its great killshooter being off and i really love the current setup. But yesterday someone was abusing this and shooting down friendly a/c taking off and landing from manned ack.

Is there anything that can be done about this, maybe change lethality or anything else? thx!
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Thanks, Furrball, for your comments.

I'm not sure what I can do about the dweebs who get their kicks shooting their coutrymen.  If I am in the arena, I can warn them, and maybe a couple other things.

It all boils down to some players are tards and obnoxious no matter what the situation.  Even a penalty would not bar them from doing things like what you described.  Well..........a code that progressively penalized them to where they couldn't fly or spawn a vehicle would do it, but until HTC does that or something similiar, it is kinda up to we players to police ourselves.

Sorry for the lame answer, but it is all I have right now..........:(

Only thing that comes to mind right now is disabling manned acks........I hate to take away what is sometimes a base's last ditch defense against assault, but if we have to..........

Film it, one warning for newbies and if they do it again  request Hitech ban their IP permamently,  period.

Oh, they're not just doing it from manned ack. Someone was doing it from an M16 the other night.

I think if you explain to them shooting down friendly-types is wrong, they still refuse to stop.. then record it (say, the talk is in there and you fly around after and still get shot down kinda recording)  and, mebbe.. if CT staff would be willing.. we could send it to them and they could come up with a penalty- Not able to fly for a day first time.. 2 days the second, etc etc.

I, however, dunno if we've got the code for mini-bannings?

CT CM's have the same powers as Events CM's. You can warn them, mute them and eject them for up to 2 hours. Personally I would have warned a player like that once then ejected him for the max time if he did it again.

If the CT staff does not have a criteria for dealing with players like that consider writing one up so you all are on the same page. Also always make sure you have your film on so if HTC gets a complaint about you, you have your rear end covered. :)

Certainly for a player like the one you describe above you would skip the “mute” end of it and move right to ejecting him. Also the mute and eject times are linked. If you have the mute set to 10 minutes and then eject them it will only be for 10 minutes unless you dial up the time.

My two cents of experience for the past 3 years. ;)

CM's need to ban em when they refuse to stop

HT will not kill their account aka $$$ over a setting of our choosing in CT :)

I think it illustrates why Killshooter is a necessary evil, unless you have someone in the CT all the time willing to police it.

It hasn't affected me yet, but I know the aggravation of being purposely killed by a friendly manned-ack or GV would outweigh any satisfaction I'd get from flying under the more realistic setting of a killshooter-off environment.

Just my $0.02.

I still think when someone's obviously gettin' their jollies shootin' players who are on their side then a nice little "hunt the fraggin' dweeb" sortie is in order. But that'll probably make it harder for the CT staff to sort out who's the fraggin' dweeb that started the fragball game. Maybe it's just better to do as suggested and film it, notify any staffer that's on currently (if there is one) and let the fragdweeb know that if his cpid is seen within icon range that he better stay clear if he holds his life dear. ;)

isit posssible ONLY to have killshooter off for airplanes? most the peeps that do this (with the exception of a well-known peep;) arent capable of killing enemies OR friendlies with an airplane

I am one of those people who thinks killshooter is an obscenity.  But, this isn't about my personal rant.

As far as programming a game is concerned there is no reason at all for killshooter to exist, except possibly one, but untill I hear an official documented response for the HiTech crew that states that one reason I will stand on the position that it does not need to be there.  Here is why.

When you attack targets on the ground you know you cant damage friendly buildings right?  Also, you know you can't damage maprooms.  (Oh you can screw up when making an arena and set a maproom to be damageable but it's a bad thing, so part of testing a new arena is to make sure all the maprooms are invulnerable).  The point of this is that the these buildings and what not are no more and no less than mere 3D objects in a 3D environment.  Your airplanes and nothing more or less than that too.  If those items can be made to be selectively damagable depending on whether friendlies are shooting at them or not then so can your airplanes.  The code already exists within the game to do it.  HiTech can patch the game so that friendly can't kill friendly any time he wants to spend the programmin hours to get it done.  Other games far far older and supposedly far less sophisticated than Aces High had setups where you could not frag a friendly and there was never a complaint.  It's not like it's hard, it's not like the code doesn't even exist yet.  It's just a matter of useing what they already have.

Killshooter is NOT a necessity.  It may be the only way HiTech & Co. can figure out how to do certain things they want to do.  But, it is certainly NOT the only way to do those things.  It's computer programming for heavens sake.  If you can imagine it, some programmer, SOMEWHERE, can probably write code for it.

I see nothing wrong with the "kill shooter" set-up. It does stop the tards that seem to get their kicks out of killing friendlies just to boost there numbers. It also gives ya one more thing to think about when you shoot.  Not that I've ever flown in a real combat before, but I'm thinking that making sure you have a clear shot BEFORE you fired must have been a BIG priority.

The biggest area that you would have a problem in would be a furball. Then again I'm sure furballs are very realistic :) Furballs are for dweebs, and take no skill other than patience in keeping fast and not succumbing to the erge to turn.

Put the kill shooter on and leave it on!

what? thats not called furballing, thats cherry picking.  Being able to furball (i.e. Get into the fight, not zoom through it at 500mph in a runstang) get kills and live is probably the most skillful part of the game.

I don't think there is any skill involed in that at all, just luck. Unfortunately, I don't have any luck!  :) You can spin and turn all you want, but your just the next guy on someones list for his "cherry pick"  :D

But the point I ws trying to make was when shooting, you have to make sure you had a clear shot. Furball environments just intensifie this skill. With the kill shooter on you just have to be that much more carefull. I was saying that maybe....just maybe those that hate the kill shooter spend too much time in fuballs and are forever shooting themselve down because they fly in the "pack" instead of hunting.
