Countless hours of play from those old Avalon Hill book case games. This was about 25 years ago for those who were not born yet.

- Stacking the little square pieces in nice, neat piles.
- Large formations spread out over the cool looking board.
- Laughing at my friends as they roll snake eyes.
- Having both hands free to smack my kids if needed. (ok ok, I did not have kids back then, but I could eat all the cookies I wanted without having to worry about my keyboard getting clogged up)
- Calling in my dog when things are not going well and having him run across the game board.

LOL, yeah...I've still got both of those stashed in a closet in the basement. Along with a dozen or so other tabletop games. Some of my favorites were the "Fleet" series from Victory Games. I bought my first one of that series, "2nd Fleet," right after Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" (arguably one of the top two he's written) came out. Lot of good material in those old games too, such as order of battle information for those particular theaters and eras.

I had a buddy who had a Stalingrad Avalon board game.

I'll never forget playing him.

Curval "Okay..I want to fire with these machine guns against the machine gun in that building"

Opponent "No line of sight...sorry".

End of turn

Next turn

Opponent "Okay, the machine gun in the building opens up on your guys there"

Curval "If I had no LOS then neither can you man...stop cheating."

Opponent breaks out rule book and long ruler and confirms LOS is okay.

Curval "Screw this".

I liked the little multi-colored pie charts that gave the data on all the planes

. I also liked how at about 2k a Mossie could out-turn anything simply by virtue of its huge number of power points or whatever they were that countered speed lost in turns.

We had both Air Force and Dauntless on USS Midway in the early eighties. Great games, and if anything, a precursor to what we do now. The whole shop spent hours and hours playing those while at sea.

Best part, the performance and loadout charts on about 90 models and multiple variants. The variants were all on one card. Accurate info too! P-38s were porked though... now where have I heard that before

Of course, there was a Japanese plane that some of us miss, and others don't miss at all. Its where we learned to appreciate the KI-84 Hiyate "Frank."

hellyas.... loved them... they're part of what kicked my interest in ww2 air combat up a notch... i even had all the expansion cards for both.... whine whine i miss them...

it's where i learned to equate the george with the corsair....

i never appreciated the 109's ability to climb tho'..

Hey there BNM how have you been? I've been pretty scarce lately and haven't flown in probably 2 weeks. Life is busy as ever now that my little girl was born. When you have 2 kids it's not twice the work, it goes up exponentially!

Also, I've been busy drawing out a picture of a British Swordfish torpedo bomber, that will be signed by her pilot at the Con. I'll post a pic of it tonight on the BB.
