Gforce FX 5600 vs gf4mx440 observations
« on: October 08, 2003, 11:16:57 AM »
Was bored the other day so I picked up a FX5600 non ultra and after playing with it this is what I have noticed:
1: Frames on MX440 were about 85 FPS average clear skies.
2: Frames on FX5600 average 60 FPS clear skies
On the MX440 I disabled vsync to get the 85 FPS, where on the FX5600 I left vsync turned on.. Both cards used the same Detonator latest driver.
Vsync is a must to turn on I have found, If you have flown with vsync turned off then you will have to relearn how to aim when it is turned on, at least I did. Shots that used to be impossible to make now have become easy with the FX5600.
It bothered me at first that the FPS was a little lower on the new FX5600, but its not apples to apples. The FX images are 100% less distorted at D1000, meaning that before, any target over D400 became blurry and at D1000 it was just almost unrecognizeable pixels. Very hard to Aim at Blurry pixels especially on a snap shot or even recognizing a reversal was at best a crap shoot.
At the highest res1200-? on a Dell Flat panel I can clearly make out the plane image at D2500 where before it was 2-3 pixels on the MX440, and at 1200-? res frames are still in the 50's with the FX5600.
Essentially a whole new game from my perspective, When I fire and Aim now I just center the target on the nme and bullets hit, before I had to adjust my aiming to make up for some understood lag in the frames..
Next I am going to change to differnt Detonator versions to see
if there is a version that runs faster..
Using a DVI cable with the Flat panel made absolutely no difference that I could find..
I think if I had the choice also I would have picked up the FX5600 Ultra due to the power concerns and the Ultra's ability to except a PS plug for its extra needed power consumption.
All for now, I have more playing to do tonight.
