Very true It's like saying whats better chevy or ford?

But I will stick with Intel for the reason of everything well (most)
things seem to work well with them.

I had bad experience with a VIA chipset once and learned my lesson.

I've got to agree with you there Mr Black - early Athlon/Athlon XP VIA chipsets were troublesome. (Most notibly the KT133A.) They have gotten better recently, but IMO they still aren't as good as nVidia and Intel's chipsets. On the Intel systems I build, I always go with an Intel chipset based Asus board. Athlon XPs get an nForce 2 based Asus board. It is one of the advantages of going with a P4 that Intel provides excellent chipsets to go along with their CPUs. AMD really only produces dual CPU chipsets for the Athlon and extremely limited quantities of expensive single processor chipsets.

I'd say my other favorite "feature" of the P4 is the metal "heatspreader", which isn't really a heatspreader as much as it is a die protector. AMD made the right move in giving the Athlon 64 CPUs one as well. Unfortunately the pins on the bottom of the P4 (and probably the Athlon 64s) are quite fragile and can be bent very easily.

Well, consider yourself one of the luckiest guys on the planet, then, because take a look at this Abit forum. After reading just a few threads, you tell me whether the IC7-MAX3 is a stable board for most folks, or an absolute nightmare. It was definately the latter for me.

I can't in good faith recommend the Abit IC7-MAX3. It was the most problematic MB I've ever run into when building a system. I'm sticking with Asus. Your mileage may vary, of course.

You will find in the Abit forums that people are doing all kinds of odd ball stuff to there boards.

Me I just followed the instructions and it worked what a concept.
Just remember the IC7MAX3 is a board made for overclockers.
So they assume you know something about computers.

On the other hand the Asus is Idiot proof.
But you don't get all the performance that you get in the Abit.

So If you know somthing about computers I say go with the Abit.
If your a beginer go with the Asus.

When I build systems.....I generally use AMD CPUs'. And with those CPUS I use either ASUS or ABit boards.....built one for my nephew Abit NF7 board with the NForce chipset.....great onboard sound and the AthlonXP1600 was a nice match....he likes it

I think it depends on who I'm building the machine for ....

ussually I use a Asus or ECS mainboard .. they are the most trouble free ive found , for the lesser machines have had decent luck with amptrons also .. But most of the pc's i build are for pc illiterates... (1st question i ussually ask is ... how to you get to a pc's bios /or the bios in your pc ? ) that ansers alot about who im building the pc for ....

now for those of you that have built Screaming pc's ..
the old asus , abits, Iwills, soyo's, ect how many have had a perfect smooth trouble free pc ??? come on now ....

how many have flashed the bios wrong or had it crash repeatedly after tweeking it ??? come on .... tell the truth now ...

I myself have several wrecked cpu's, a few bios chips,and a few other messed up experimental pc's ...Im guilty thats forshure .

I'll stick with the stuff i know works for handing over to other users ... and keep my experiment pile /closet to myself .. (less phone calls that way )

I dont care if its Amd or pent ... its all in the $$$ at hand

It is the 1st or 2nd best overclocking motherboard depending on who you talk to. Combine that MB with a XP2500+ and a good heatsink/fan combo it will easily hit 2.2Ghz
