« on: October 31, 2000, 11:52:00 PM »
<S> fellow AH lovers, for the last week or so now I have been having no fun at all in the Main Arena due to the fact that every time  I engage a con in either ,fighter, bomber or tank I get these huge SCREEN FREEZES   ,same happens when I near a large furball or smoking Field. Now I know ya all going to say its me 3D card but why has it only started now and not 5 mnths ago when I started AH? {Voodoo2}, but some one said it may be my soundcard is this true? as i have been having trouble with it lately
All I know is its starting to turn me off the game so if any one can help me out I would appreciate it   as I know absolutly FA about computors

HELP!!!!!!!

Here's some things to try:

A.  Some information for me, what kind of soundcard is it?

B.  Do you connect by modem?  If so, try disabling the connection icon in the taskbar.  I know it sounds funny, but it often helps.  Do this:  My computer -> dial-up networking -> connection menu up top -> settings -> uncheck "show icon on taskbar when connected"  This will likely make a small difference.

C.  Make sure your soundcard and video card are not sharing the same interupt.  If you are using Windows 98, go start -> accessories -> system tools -> system information -> click + symbol next to hardware resources -> click IRQs.  Look and see if your video card is on the same interupt as your soundcard.  If it is, let us know.

D.  Try decreasing your view range when near a con to increase framerates.  (Press shift f1 - shift f3 for the available ranges.)  Also turn off ground clutter when in a tank with control c.

E.  Make sure you don't have any useless programs running in the background while you play AH.  One particularly bad one if you have Office 97 is called fastfind.  This program is basically useless, and really kills your system performance.  To disable it right click the start button -> pick explore -> go to startup folder -> remove fastfind from this folder.

Good luck!

Go into AH video setup and disable triple buffering.

(BTW My soundcard is a ESS solo-1), My frame rate is much better but the freezes still happen when I fire the guns   so Unfortunatly im up for a new sound card and untill then guess im in a bomber for awhile  . Again Thankyou for all the advice <S>

Goat-Your sound card is on the motherboard? Is your video card PCI or AGP?
