The major battles were trench warfare, with large amounts of men rushing into No Mans Land at the sound of a whistle. Then they'd get mowed down by machine guns, the other side would do the same thing. Rinse, Wash, Repeat.

How is it different? WW2 was a war of mobilization, fought with weapons that allowed swift movement, WW1 was fought with rifles and heavy .30 cal stationary MG's. In WW2 games you have the objective to capture something (IE documents in CoD or blow something up). The only objective you could have in a WW1 game is: Decimate the enemy waves. You can't tell me that snipers are like the riflemen in trench warfare.
