Was last night a Bish joint Ops night?
« on: November 12, 2003, 09:23:20 AM »
AKs were grouped together hitting the northern air bases in B-17s, then doing GVs captures on the vehicle base.

Hornets were in Mustangs on the western flank doing air superiority and jabo.

Some other group was doing hi-alt N1K2 pork raids on airbases behind the front line bases.

Couldn't have been coincidence.

The kicker is, all of the enemy planes I encountered skipped right over my lower 109 so that they could drop ord on the base and die to flak and lower airplanes.  The closest thing I had to a dogfight was when I ran from a pair of 51s, a N1k2, and an LA7.  I got separation from the N1K2 and LA-7 just to die to the pair of 51Ds (CrazyAce of the Hornets, to be specific, and some other 51 dude winging with him).  The rest of the night it was bomber intercepts where I had a 50/50 chance of dying to B-17 and Ju-88 gunners (and they were gunners, not pilots sitting in a tailgun position).

The sooner we get off this map, the sooner we can get to Fester's map.

Coincidence. Hasn't been a Bish joint ops for some time. AK's getting the hang of this bombing stuff and we like it, nice change of pace.

for some unexplained reason after a year or so as knight/rook I "flew" as bish for an hour last night, I was amazed at the level of co-operation, of course it helped to have numbers and that rook HQ was down....... But  they sure seemed more organised

It was a blast to be on the defensive side for so long last night...nice change of pace. A constant fight for us rooks to hang on to 39 and 42 by the fingernails.  I thought rooks did a great job of  staying alive so long.  Bish and then nits(I believe in that order, I was very busy w/ all the contacts in the air) did a fine job of keeping the pressure on.
A big to those who shot my hellcat down (there were a few, heheh) and to the handful I managed to kill.

Tons o' fun!

Yeah, I figured it had to be more than a passing partnership.  I saw 2x stangs, a N1K, and an LA-7 against my 109G10 with gondies and I figured I'd exercise the better part of valor.  All four started chasing me.  The LA-7 got enticed by another target and broke off, the N1k gave up the chase, and I was outpacing one of the P-51Ds but the other had alt on me and was closing the gap.  When he got under me to about d800 I figured it was time to go down shooting.  Did some fancy pilot stuff and even tried to force an overshoot a couple of times but no dice.  Not sure who finished me off in the close-quarters turnfight but CrazyAce got the kill.

By the time I got to the airfield tower, the AKs had a full GV assault going on, fuel was porked to 25%, and the vehicle hangar was down.  The hi-alt N1K2 jabo raid was effective.

I was actually kind of glad to lose that map.  There's something about it that kills my frame rates on my graphics card.

Airraiders have been trying to be more organized internally, not with other squads though. I've been trying to push for more wingman pairs. Hey! Thats a good idea, joint squad ops, who's up for it tonight? Airraiders will probably have 10 guys on tonight. We've got 3 never miss bomber pilots, some good fighter pilots. I specialize in making an excellent target myself.
