« on: December 12, 2003, 06:17:00 AM »
I have just installed windows xp on my new system that i built, The motherboard i used was a Gigabyte Via Km400m series chip, and the apprent intergreated sound was realtek ac97. with the mobo i got a disc with device drivers one was for the ac97 which i installed and it all responds, and says its working fine yet there is no sound through speakers. i've been in the bios and the card seems to be enabled and ready to go. The system specs are as follows.

AMD athlon 2500+
2X corsair 256(2700) ddr ram
Gigabyte Ga 7vm400mf (Mobo)
Gigabyte Ati 9200 (128mb)
Maxtor 60gb Hdd
Lg 52X cd
Atx midi-tower +350w pent Iv psu

im thinking perhaps my wiring isnt so great or somthing like that?yet i didnt think there was any. if anyone could point me in the right direction i would much apprecitate it.

It's obvious but ... did you try to plug your speaker in another slot ?
And check your sound volume as well ...

Yes, sounds like you plugged the speakers into the mic in, or something like that.  Also try a pair of headphones as well, in case your speakers are broken.

I have tried 2 diffrent sets of speakers and my headphones with all possible configurations yet i still get no sound.
i remind you a put this pc together so if there is a possability that its a wire not hookep up then that could be my prob, as far as i know it has no seperate leads though

I have a ga-7va mobo with onboard ac-97 5.1 suroundsound, mine works fine. Did you remove the jumper for the front panal headphone connector, that will mute  the sound if it doesn't have the correct type connector pluged into it.
