Is it possible to extend the mic on a headset?
« on: December 31, 2003, 04:50:49 PM »
My new Logitech P300 USB arived. It seems to be working ok, but sometimes it does not. XP recoginzes it everytime, but sometimes I have to pull out the USB and put it back in for it to take. Is there drivers for this?

More important is the fact that the mic does not come around to my mouth. It is WAY too short.  Best I can do is have it near the side of my mouth. Really it is more on my cheek so I am very faint when talking even with the mic volume turned way up.

I was wondering if I was to cut the boom on the mic and go to the local Radio Shack if I could buy the same kind of wireing that is inside and extend it myself. Anyone ever done this? Anyone ever take a mic apart? Is there many wires?

My old Labtec C-370 worked great for about 4 years. Finally started to die a few weeks ago. The boom on the mic was much longer.

2 wires in a mic.  instead of trying to cut and extend the boom you might want to find a cheaper headset with a boom length you like and replace the whole boom.

btw- solder the conections back together.  if you just twist and tape the wires it will eventually sound like crap.

daddog - give your old headset to Lazs. His normal speaking voice is loud enough that it would be perfect for him. ;):lol

I would guess it would be the same (a mic is a mic as far as I know) but I've never used a USB headset, let alone take one apart.
