After careful study of the map I stand by my opriginal suggestion of more islands and/or or  bases on the main lands with the HQs being located deep inland.

Otherwise I hope everyone likes living without Dar.
once the hoard steamrollers get going Dar is going to be gone in short order.

Maybe if ya put HQs inside of inactive volcanoes with the outer rim of the volcanoes at say 25K? LOL

The constant concern of HQ is getting old. Everyone Squawks about it, but few actually care to defend it properly.
I would love to play in an arena without DAR at All!
In fact, i would like to play in an Allie vs Axis arena without even the cheezy benifit airplane ICONS tags. Where one would have to identify the other aircraft befor pulling the trigger :D
The Fact of the matter is, no one wants to fly Patrol near HQ to intercept HQ raiders. Instead they wait till its too late to actually prevent HQ from taking a hit. But they do however manage to get there early enough to git a Kill or 2  The proper way to defend a countries HQ ,would be to periodicly fly CAP around the HQ Secor boundries. Come to think of it, The absence of a Radar would help curtail the Furballs. I think furballers would still find their place alright..but they would have to hunt for it. This would make them fly a bit more conservitive. :D  Cherry picking would be something alltogether different as well. :lol

Hey Cit, the map looks great.

I'm not crazy about the medium blue ocean, tho... could it look more like this?

Dux, my personal preference is lighter water.  The original water textures HTC used (ie, ndisle) had a dark feel to them and seemed to hide icons/planes/whatever.  Maybe I'm going blind :)

If more textures could be used for multiple depths like ^ in that pic, and if a water texture wasnt monotone (like the lower half of the pic) and had a transparent "feel" to it, then sure :)

Hmm, that pic does have a lovely shade of blue though.

Fair enough. Just looks really un-water-like to my eyes.

Looks great!

Serious question. With so many CV's around will every flight be spent running
"the gauntlet" after takeoff?

dux I made the water lighter as a simulation of shallow water around the islands where most fighting will occur. to me it looks more accurate than dark blue deep sea. the color of the water in reality is based on the depth and the ocean surface sand being common in many pacific locals. once the water is past a certain depth it all looks the same when viewed from directly above but then when you view the same dark deep blue sea from low altitude it turns to sky blue from the reflections of the sky.

heh till we get multitextured water with reflections we are stuck with a compromise :)

hey dux I added another "pearl" to the map :D
in fact the whole island of oahu is accurately depicted (even the scale is quite close too) all the actual bases on it as well (hickam wheeler etc)

Hey Fester,
In the midway terrain we used the grass tile for shallow reef areas which have the added benefit of being an obstruction to shipping.  Probably too much work at this point but just a thought.

yeah squirrel i saw that, using all tiles for land currently though

but like i mentioned earlier i adjusted the water to give it that pacific reef look so its a cross between deep sea water and island beachfront water

dux that would be great. I am planning on making every base but some of the bases are very close so flight will be disabled in the field setup on them for ma gameplay purposes. (easily ulocked by cm's for events) i added every single ship exactly as it was on december 7th...

but a lot of them are taxiways :)

frame rate saver. too many battleships wont hurt frameraet till close then its a meltdown with all the detail so its a comprommise but I think its quite convincing from distance and up close those that dont know the wiser will think they are supposed to be there as mooring points or piers  hehe

so far ive got 3 exact replicas of historic battlegrounds on this map midway, iwo jima and pearl harbor

Fester,

I am very Impressed.   This is a great effort and a service to the AH community.    Thanks for the work your putting into this map.

Well Done Sir!   :)
