Host Disco's after scoring a kill?
« on: February 21, 2004, 03:28:19 PM »
I already sent an email to tech support but I just wondered if anyone else was getting this problem.  Its not something that happens *everytime* but in my last few sorties...its happened twice.

Once, I was in a F-4UC, shot down my 2nd opponent then got the Disco/Lost UPD thing...I got no warning.  It happened immediately after I got the System message that I had shot the guy down.

A few mins ago, I had Ju88s bombing a factory complex.  I salvo'd off all 20 bombs (x3 bombers) and had impressive hits registering...then Disco/Lost UPD.

If this happened everytime, Id think i was on to something.  But Ive had a fantastic connection to the servers and wonder why this UPD/Host Disco is only happening when ...of all things...I manage to hit something!  :)

I dont know, hoping to hear something.  Its not happening ALL the time...but about 50% of the time I score a kill or hit, out i go.  I dont have anything else running on my system (no Norton, etc) and thru the same Linksys router/firewall I've always had.

Odd.  Does the Ethernet card have its own IRQ LePaul?

If you want, you could drop me the DXDIAG output.  Might see something there too.

1)  You do not want to be using the 52.16 video drivers for that 4600.  Consider rolling back to the 41.09 drivers.  All the 5x.xx drivers are optimized for the FX cards and introduced some odd behavior in the older cards.

2)  You are using an AC97 sound thing.  I cannot call it a sound card or chip as most all the work is actually done in software by the CPU.  Anything would be better than it, but if you are going to use it, check for a driver update as the driver is a couple of years old.

Any luck with the IRQ's?

NIC is using IRQ 17, no conflicts.

Found newer VIA 4-in-1 Drivers, newer AC97 drivers also.

I agree, never did think much of onboard audio stuff.

Trying to get the older version of that video driver from nVidia now...then I'll uninstall what i have.

I let the PC run Speed Disk over night...this morning,it errored it with a I/O error.  I'm begining to wonder if the hard drive, less than a year old, is flaking out like the previous Western Digital.  I'll have to try a chkdsk /r/v when I go home after work.

Hmmm,...could be.  Seems like there has been a rash of short lived HD's around.  I do not think that it is causing your disco, but it might be possible.

I sent a film that captured a disconnect last night to Support.  Check that, please  :)   Id love to know what clues that showed.

I agree about the HDD.  This is a 9 month old replacement for the "top of the line, highly rated" Western Digital I bought and crashed.

It bounced from support :(

Also, noticed that if I start film (alt-r)...my hard drive spins like crazy....then get the same error.

Go back in, alt-r...seems to start filming within a second or two...and no problem.
