ETO Setup?
« on: February 26, 2004, 10:34:33 AM »
I can hear the whines already, but . . .

Why not feature a P-47 vs. 190s escorted Bombing Setup.  Suggest the following:

Allies:
Lancaster
B-17
A20
B-26
P47D-25
P-47D-30

Axis:
Ju88
Ju87
BF110D
FW190A5
FW190A8
FW190D9 (?maybe or yes or no?)

Because if we allow Tiffies, Spits, stangs, and G10s that is all we will see.  It will be "MA lite".

I like the Norway idea as a location, but that plane list is too large. It will turn into the MA with a special map.

That is an interesting idea Storch, kind of like a "Snapshot" scenario but for a week. I'd be willing to try it, but I dont think many others would.

How about this: Skuas over Norway
April-June 1940.

Carriers HMS Ark Royal and Glorious sink Konigsberg April 10, BEF evacuates Narvik 10 June,  attack Scharnhorst 12/13 June.

Allied (CV only)
Hurricane I (SeaHurri)
SBD (Skua)

Axis

109E
110C
Ju88 (no formations)
Ju87

What do you think, good idea bad idea?

OK, I posted that without  having d/l the Norway map, I did not realize that the UK and northern Eurpope were on the map too. I suppose you could add the Boston and maybe the Spit I to the Allies from the UK bases in the N but not from Norway, only Hurricanes there.  That is a loooooong flight from the Orkneys.

So a revised list is:

Allied land

Spit I
Hurri I
Boston

Allied CV (2) no CA's

SeaHurricane
SBD (Skua)

PT's and all Tonka Toys (no Tigger)

Axis

109E
110C
Ju88
Ju87

PT's and all Tonka Toys (no Tigger)

1 CA fleet

However, I still want one that features the D25 block P-47 versus some 190s.

I would like that too Sakai, but how about a little earlier before the P51 got there, like a P47-D11 vs 190A5/A8, 109G2/G6? I'd be just as happy with yours too.

I'd take any featured P-47 in escort role setup.

The D30 to my mind is really a Jabo.  Give me the Razorback.

Like Grits "Early War Norway" as well.

Could possibly add the Martlet too if you were feeling generous but not necessary.

D-11 is so, so nice.

But nearly every setup we have that involves the D-11, I always end up on the Axis side to even the numbers.  Sad Oldman.

- oldman (maybe if you make it D-11s v. 109G-10s, I could stick with the allies?)

For sure you could add the Martlet in a later set, but the spring '40 events were all Seahurricane's, Gladiators (which we dont have obviously and dont have a suitable substitute) Hurricanes I's and Skuas. I dont think the Martlet I's had been aquired by the FAA yet as they were diverted from the French after they surrendered, but you could add them for sure if folks felt they were really needed.

The more I think about it, the more interesting it sounds. The planes are all fairly evenly matched, with the edge probably going to the LW, but its the opposite of the BoB, the RAF will be the ones with the long flight to the battle not the LW.

This is one where I say "bring in the drones".  Boxes of AI bombers to attack and guard against would make for a nice arena I say.  D11-25 against the G6 and 190a5/a8.

I think you'd have a great setup.
