Lookin for a Japanese CT squad
« on: February 26, 2004, 07:39:07 PM »
I'm looking for an all Japanese squad that fly's in the CT. Is there any such squad? I can fly anything in the line up and I would be an asset to any squad. In the MA I fly with the Damned and that won't change but I'd like to participate with a good group in the CT. I'd like to wing with some squads before I decide so times when your squad is on would be good to know. :aok

The 13th Sentai was the only one I knew of and I don't think they are still flying together at this time. A while back some other guys had the 27th Sentai as well. I wish someone would rekindle that flame and get me some meatball targets back in the air with some regularity. PLEASE!!!:D

I am sure some of the 13th & 27th Sentai guys are still around.

If you can't find a squad - START ONE. The CT really needs a full time Japanese squad - more the better.

To have that we need a Pac setup scheduled regularly (like clockwork). Which I'm sure is the plan. :D

Geez. You were as antagonistic as anyone on the boards or on channel 1. We could handle it and dish some back. Apparently you couldn't. And you whine so damned much now I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering why you even play the game much less post here anymore. The post I'm currently responding to is the perfect example.

C'mon, Storch ... get over it already. :D

all.    A bit of background:

The first U.S. based, English-speaking Japanese squad in AH that I know of was the 27th Sentai, started by members of the former WarBirds squad of the same name.   I was in that group, and was in the Warbirds squad as well.    The AH 27th Sentai was an MA squad, started I believe even before there was a CT.   It fizzled, but was resurrected as a CT-only squad by Lowe, Jester, and I and a nucleus of pilots from VF-27, which had become a large, CT-dominating squad with no organized opposition.

We had a very good time for a while, but the frustrations of flying the slower, outnumbered Japanese A/C eventually catch up with you.    Lowe and Jester left to start the 325th I believe, and a few months later I left AH completely.     Keyapaha took over what was left of the squad and reformed it as the 13th Sentai.

Key's boys made a name for themselves as tough, good-spirited competitors in any situation, fighting VF-27 and VF-17 in PTO CT setups.     Keyapaha became such a skilled A6M2 driver he could even fly it successfully in the MA.    I got the bug again and came back to AH and flew with them for a few months, putting up a squad website for them:

13th Sentai

Real Life caught up with Key recently and he disbanded the squad and left AH; the remaining pilots scattered I think into various CT squads.

Flying and maintaining a Japanese squad in AH is a tough row to hoe.   It seems like you are perenially outnumbered, outgunned, outspeeded, etc.   And there are a number of great Japanese fighters left out of the game, and holes in the planeset that need filling, for example the Ki.43 and the A6M3.    With no new development for AH1 and the AH2 new planeset probably filling out the for the Euro Theater-based Tour of Duty, its going to be a long long time for any new Japanese planes.

You know, VWE, you could start by seeing if any other members of the Damned might be interested.   If you could get a small group of 4-5 guys that are willing to do it, maybe you could grow a Japanese CT squad.

Good Luck to you, whatever you decide!

Ifluff'n you ever want to arrange a squad type operation in CT during a Pac setup, let's do it.  We can do it formally or informally.  Don't need a squad, just some guys willing to spend 2-4 hours together running ops as a group.  I would be happy to do that once a setup for the Japanese, or for the Allies.  I htink that stuff is great as long as it is specific ops and contributes ot game play (as opposed to gangbanging).

Antagonism? I never saw antagonism Storch but I did see a large squadron (JG3) with a target on their back; that every other squadron in the CT wanted a piece of during squadron nights. It wasn't because JG3 was "better" than the other squadrons it was simply a matter of wanting to stop a well organized group.

Wow Storch I agree with you on this one. I might need to head to the doctor and have a physical. As a CT Staffer I am working like mad to come up with setups in the CT that are #1 fun and #2 balanced to a point where both sides can compete with each other.

See my first point above but understand that the taunting and berating goes both ways. [CT Staffer hat on] Regardless of who does it I will work to end the crap that happens on channel 1 when I am in the arena.[CT Staffer hat off]

Now to get this thread back on track. I honestly hope that someone revives 13th Sentai or even starts a new one.

We now return you to a normal discussion about forming a Japanese squad or engaging in such operations which was intended to be run without the input of any infants whatsoever.

VWE,

The old 27th SENTAI website is still around also with all the graphics and aircraft files still on it.

<27th SENTAI WEBSITE>

If your serious about starting a Japanese squad I am sure there would be no problem in handing it over to you for your use if you want it.

! Good luck with the squad.

VWE,

I'm one of the members of the last incarnation of the 13th Sentai ... the only one, I think, that hasn't migrated to another squad and still flies regularly.

I'm back to lone-wolfing it now, flying whichever side suits me depending on the planeset, but I fly exclusively IJN when there's a PTO up.

I stick to the CT, so if you see me there, gimme a holler and we'll wing up if you like.

I have not flow much in the CT, but did for a little over an hour a week ago and had a great time. Nice change from the MA... though I did fly the Wildcat against Zero's. I'll get online and see if I can find someone to wing with, if your in a P-38 you better learn to check 6 tonight! :D

N1K currently has a 2:1 k/d ratio against the '38.   The Ki.61 is about 1.2:1 against '38.    Interesting results against the airplane that destroyed more Japanese planes than any other.   I think our mileage is varying....:o

I'm of a mind that it's the pilot. I got lucky and splashed OM then the airwar seemed to peter out altogether. I GVed a bit but the guys that have more GV time ate me up. Let's see what cooks up on squad nights and see if anything interesting happens in the skies over the PI/Burma/MegaMalta terrain.

I could be mistaken myself, it might be the case that the Hellcat shot down more IJ aircraft than any other US Navy aircraft, while the P-38 holds the record overall for all services, or vice versa, substituting the USAAF for the USN.

I don't disagree with Arlo, I think the numbers also have to do with a lack of teamwork on the US side.   I didn't hear much radio chatter while I was on, or witness much organized flying.

In a mixed-bag low alt furball, these Japanese planes are eating the P-38's lunch.

I found the fights against the Ki.61 the most enjoyable.
But what should a P-38 do with a N1K on its tail?    What is its best defensive option?
