Good ol' Amazon -- name a film and Amazon probably has it.  Ordered Step Into Liquid but dvd not available until mid April.

Wish the title didn't remind me of dodging pet voids.

Hmmmm.  Is the plot any good?  I heard something about the lead character's love interest is an NFL quarterback and I promptly dismissed it as sappy teen crap.

Close enough.  Blue Crush is another Hollywood surf movie, not a documentary like the best surf visions.

I scored a copy of the DVD "Billabong Odyssey" but had to pay top dollar for the instant gratification of buying it at a QuietFlight surf shop at a high-end mall. As I was paying for it, a guy that works there passed by and said "Odyssey - good choice!"  Cost me $30.  But hey, I got it and managed to watch the first 15 minutes before the wife told me to turn it off so we could leave for the weekend.

The opening sequence is jaw-dropping.  The jetski is towing the surfer across the expanse of ocean and then out of nowhere the wave just builds up HUGE!  Holy crap!

If the rest of the movie is as good as the first 15 minutes, this one looks like its going to be a classic. Thanks for the pointer! :aok

edit: oh, by the way I asked about "Step Into Liquid" and the salesgirl said they had 6 copies of the DVD but they quickly sold out.  So that's one that I'll have to get online I guess.

I got so stoked by the awesome waves in Billabong Odyssey I ordered three more surf flicks from Amazon:

Step Into Liquid
Laird
Thicker Than Water.

I like all three.  Step Into Liquid has particularly gorgeous wave photography.  It's by the younger Brown and insists it is NOT Endless Summer III, and it isn't, but still a great film showing surfing's appeal to all ages in all waves sizes.

I'll have to look for that DVD at lunch today.

Used to surf the OClub by Patrick AFB... good waves when there is a swell, but definitely not Costa Rica =)  Anyways, I found God off the Florida Coast S of Sebastian during Andrew... young, dumb, and way too immortal... glad I lived through that.  Had one other wonderous scare... in the form of a 10 foot Tiger off WPB, bumped me so hard, I came completely out of the water...  Did not surf again for over a year.

That said, nothing like a great onshore breeze, total glass and the sun at your back... pure nirvana.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

I was smart enough to avoid the Atlantic coast during Andrew (either that or I was just to lazy to make the trip).  A bump from a 10-foot Tiger would keep me out of the water for a year, too!

Friend of mine's house at Homestead far away from beach was demolished by Andrew.  He thought he and his wife were goners.  They sold the remains, bought a motor home and drove to Alaska.  Lucky they weren't there during the Anchorage earthquake.

Always something waiting to get us.

The wedge has been going off lately.  I'll see if I can link to some photos that were in the Register of kamikaze body-boarders.

I have seen photos of some nutcase from Hawaii taking a wave OVER the 12'? high jetty and getting dumped into Newport Harbor on the other side.
