Me and the wife are kicking the habit this weekend, we have decided to try the patch, any of you ex smokers recommend
a better option than the patch?

Why wait until this weekend?

Also, don't talk about how you're quitting smoking to all of your associates.  The more you talk about it, the more you'll think about it, and the more you think about it the more you'll want it.

none of the 'gimick's or tools' worked for me.

I had to get to the point where I hated smoking more than I craved it.

before you go saying you're 'there'. ..  I'm talking about at the moment of 'truth'.. when you want to light up.. with that drink, while on the phone, after dinnner and/or sex.. etc
So many smokers want to quit but that isn't enough IMO.

with all the associations smokers have,

what needs to happen is that at that moment when you go to light up you have to hate it more than crave it.

it helps to 'get busy' with work, exercise, hobbies... whatever it takes to get your mind off cigs.
and like Gofaster mentioned.. don't obsess over it.. get it off your mind

When I quit smoking(the first time), it was for about 2 months. I lit up a cigarette and got sicker than a dog. I haven't smoked since(29 years ago). By the way, it was cold turkey. Also, anything other vices I've had I quit via cold turkey. I haven't indulged in any illegal drugs in 23 years and it will be 20 years this summer since I've drank alchohol. I haven't drank caffiene in almost 20 either. You say, "what are your vices now"?, rootbeer, oreo blizzards and collecting flight jackets.

:)

First of all congrats on your choise. I quit a 13 year old habbit on feb 1. and have stayed "clean" (a couple of weeks ago i was seen drunk as a mofo with a sig in my hand but i can't remember so it does not count imo).
Anyway... the health benefits comes very rapidly, and you are gonna notice it within the first week!. I thought i was in fairly good shape before i quit, but now i realise i wasnt. Its great and now i don't regret it al... its like a brand new lifel :)

I didn't use any aids to quit and i decided on a sunday that i would not buy another pack on monday so it was in impulse..not planned. I had a bad couple of weeks before the worst of the nicotine craving went away and it was not fun so prepare yourself for it (no pain, no gain) Belive it or not...the craving is all gone now, but i do miss them once in a while but not as much as i feared.

Good luck to you, it is worth it so don't give up if you decide to try!

Keep us posted and ill back you up anytime you need it :aok

I highly recommend the patch. though I never tried Zyban, the patch was the only way I could quit.

I used the gum, it was easier and actually cheaper than cigarettes. Just don't get the original flavor, the orange is alot better.

The gum seemed to allow me to chew which is alot more reactive than a patch could ever be.
