No Longer Homeless
« on: April 03, 2004, 12:01:59 PM »
As many of you know my wife and I have been homeless for the last few weeks, but our fortunes have changed and we've rented a small apartment.

I wouldn't mention this, cause it's humbling and embarassing, but for the fact it has caused me to change my opinion of homeless people and made me sensitive to the plight of homeless people and the problems they're faced with.

Nobody wants to be homeless- sometimes  stuff just happens, and we're forced onto the street. Remember that when you see homeless people, maybe give them a dollar or two if you can. It was only by the graciousness of strangers we were able to land on our feet. Don't forget it could be YOU that's homeless someday.

Mielta, thanks for your graciousness. .

Airhead,

We disagree on many things here on the bbs. However I would not have wished anything like that on you. I am glad you are on the upswing and hope it works out for you two.

All stumble at some time, only those that refuse to get up again are the losers of the world.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Actually Maverick we're more alike than you know. ;)

In fact the people I admire most on this Board are you, Toad, Dune, Concho, Iron and the many others who have done things like being a pilot, a law enforcement/ military career, making it all the way through law school, etc.-

I don't have to agree with people politically to "like" them. I can admire the accomplishments of a person foremost over their opinions provided they aren't a racist or just plain ignorant, and some discussions here have at least made me think, so that's good.

Now before this goes too far, I must add that I gained eight pounds last month cause we ate in restaurants or had fast food, which I consider to be the biggest problem with being homeless.
In fact obesity is common among homeless people, so what we should do is have the Government pay for health club memberships for the homeless. That way they'll be a slimmer, trimmer begger.

Glad to hear Airhead, I didn't know you were homeless......very glad to hear you have better fortunes now

I'm sure you know that many homeless people are just lazy arse bums and never intend to try to change their situation. I have a HUGE heart for people I feel are truly in need and would literally ( and figurativly have) give the shirt off my back to people I feel need a hand.

I don't have a problem with the homeless except when they get lodged in people's windshields and subject innocent motorists to their foul breath.

Airhead, if you want to OWN a nice home, do what I did. I bought a 2 year old reposessed Manufactured Home (Doublewide) for about 1/3 of it's original price. Yes, it's a doublewide...but I paid $16,500 for a 1750 sqft home that I OWN and it's built better than most apartments I've been in.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.
