The Draft
« on: April 06, 2004, 05:03:00 PM »
OK, time for something important.  Who's going where and when?

I think SD will take Manning first.  Even though I really feel that Brees deserves one more season and they need a WR, they have to take Eli.

OAK - Who do they take?  The mock drafts I've seen are pretty split on Gallery from Iowa and Fitzgerald from Pitt.  However, they also may be looking at a QB.  If Porter can come back from his injury, they aren't desperate at WR.  And Tuiasosopo (or however you spell it) didn't help things by being hurt 4 minutes into his first start.  Now no one knows if he can take over for Ganning, even though he looked good against KC that Monday night.  They could also use some DB help.

AZ - Having watched them since '88, I expect them to take a long-snapper.  ;)  Well, maybe not with Green at the helm this year.  Perhaps they'll actually get someone good.   Green has said he really likes the QB they had last year, which makes many people think they'll go for a WR.

This draft is interesting in that there could be alot of trading with the first 10 picks.

Oakland: Well, it depends who is calling the shots in the draft. If it is Al Davis I would be suprised to see him draft Gallery. I say that because he was the one who traded Jim Lachey to washington. Lachey was called a future hall of famer by then head coach Art Shell(when Art Shell calls you a hall of fame tackle, that says alot). Joe Jacoby was washington's LT at the time(a great tackle himself), and was moved to left guard. Don't be surprised to see them draft Sean Taylor. Rumor has it that the Patriots have worked out a deal to get the 6th pick from the Lions if Sean Taylor is available. If Oakland could work a deal with the Giants to trade down two spots, they could get Taylor and maybe a 5th or 6th round pick. If they stay put I would think they would draft one of the top 2 QB's, but they could get a good QB in the middle of the first round also. I believe they need a running back, so they could go that way too. But, like I said, don't be surprised to see them trade down a few spots, they could get who they want, pay less for him, and get an extra pick. And that doesn't even take in consideration that San Diego could trade their pick. Very interesting.
I love the NFL draft, I enjoy it more than the Superbowl(even when my team is in it:D )

I don't know about you guys, but I'd take a half good veteran over a number one draft pick anyday.

I predict that the Skins will draft someone who ends up being a total bust.

At least we got Gibbs back.

Some predict they will draft Winslow because Gibbs likes to have the tight end in his offense. But if I remember correctly, Joe's TE's were always the size of an offensive lineman(he wants them to run block). Winslow does not seem to fit that mold. Gallery seems to be a player that Gibbs would want. Maybe a swap with Oakland to land him?

Hey Raub, i'm showing Washington with only 2 picks in the draft? If that's the case i'm going to take that swap comment with Oakland back, they don't have anything to bargain with. Now that I think of it, maybe a swap down for more picks. Patriots maybe?

Well, the Giants are swapping up, but not with Oakland.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1777846

This is interesting in that I thought Coughlin would go after Gallery. I did read that he was impressed with either Manning's or Roth's workout, interesting. If they are going after a QB, there is a good chance that Gallery might be there at the number 5 pick for Washington.

looks like San Diego may be targeting Gallery, according to the article. But with Boston gone, maybe WR?

Rumor this week in the Boston Globe has Washington working a deal with the Pats.

Great pick by the Raiders. Chargers should have grabbed him.
