Discos kill the scores.
« on: March 02, 2000, 12:39:00 AM »
Tonight there was a terrible connect to AH experienced by many.  I personally flew 6 sorties and had 5 in-flight discos.  4 of these discos were before I was engaged with the enemy.

I have just realized that:
Each disco counts as a sortie and;
Discoed flight time is included in the total flight time.

This means that discos can really screw-up ones kill-per-sortie-ratio, and kill-per-time-ratio.

In all fairness, I hope that something can be done about this.

By the way HT,
All of my discos froze the screen and completly locked up my computer.  Discos in the past did not do this.

Me too, 2 discoes, 1 requiring a hard reset.  (This is the first time this has ever happened.)  I'm also getting clipping, sound popping, and stick spiking all over again.  Later on I was getting what seemed like rubber bullets.  It was most certainly NOT a good night.    (My RW also seems to be having trouble working as well???  It is causing my screen to freeze randomly when shooting.)

Last week was bad for me concerning the net. My ping times were quite bad, some packet loss too.

I also expereinced rubber bullets. Ok, maybe it was just me, but enemy planes just did not go down with hits.

My hit percentage dropped from 17% to some 11-12% at that time. Some guys were just impossible to hit. In case where I'd normally land hits, my bullets just went what seemed around or through the plane. Not sure what is it, maybe just my gunnery.

I ended up with 8 in flight discos last night, and 4 tower discos.  (I should have quit earlier).
during all of tour 1 I had only 12 in flight discos.

I also experienced "hard" lock-ups after the disco's last night, quit after #2.

Guys,

When you get disconnected it really helps to trace your connection and send the info in here.  Just saying "I got discoed and it sucks" doesn't give HTC any ammo to try to get things fixed.  Most of the time I find the problem is with a router outside of HTC's control, so we need to give them all the ammo we can to try and get it fixed up.

Go get ping plotter at http://www.nessoft.com/pingplotter/  and trace your connection with it when things get flaky.  From the edit menu you can copy to the results to the clipboard as text or an image and paste them into another application.  The text info can be pasted right into the UBB like this:

Target Name: beta.hitechcreations.com
         IP: 216.91.192.19

The more info we can give HTC, the better chance that these connection issues can be fixed!    Thanks!

This probably should be over in "Game Bugs".

I have had two game lock-ups total since beta ver 34.  Both of these lock-ups have occured in ver 1011.  At the time I did not know If I had been discoed or not.  My computer locked up.  I had to do a hard reset and it was impossible for me to tell.

As for the topic of the discussion... "Discos kill the score"

This is something that must happen.  If it did not, too many people would simply unplug the modem when things got a little too hairy.  Alt-F4... alt-tab... unplugging modems... too many people are willing to play any advantage they can.  Its bad enough now that ditches don't count as a kill/capture.

Good point AKDejaVu.
There does need to be a deterent to intentional discos, and I can't imagine how HTC could tell the difference.
Hmmm...

My experiences in 1.01 so far have been dismal

6 flights
1 death
1 landing
2 dumps to desktop
2 hard lockups with speakers clicking away madly requiring cold reboot

Never had these problems before 1.01
