This board - pure evil ?
« on: October 03, 1999, 03:20:00 AM »
My idea is *not* to sound like a guardian of good morale or anything, but i have noticed some venomous posts here, if not down-right evil.

If someone posts a new idea, does a small mistake, or have a "different" opinion from the "main opinion" he gets a hard time. He is told to shut up, to leave this board, and lately he is told that everything he say is irrelevant because AH is in a beta (as if anyone should forget ?).

The feel and joy of an online sim is ultimately a function of the community. Even the best FM or the most stunning graphics and sounds means nothing if the community is rotten.

This BBS started out great with lots of open discussions of everything closely (and remotely) connected to WWII planes, history and gaming aspects, lets keep it that way.

HTC put up 5 new forums when the beta started for us to report bugs. This is the general discussion forum.

One more thing, I've noticed;
Before AH there was FA-people, AW-people and
WB-people fighting and blaming others.
AH has brought these people all together without any arguing anymore.

Now that's good !

bod:

I hear you, but ultimately I'd have to say AH is the lesser of two evils.  Sure, there's a lot of puerile activity on this board, and I find it mildly distasteful, but it sure beats the dogmatic, doctrinal posturing in WB.  Here, it's like a bunch of children at elementary school during recess.  In WB, it's like a bunch of old men, playing checkers in a park, but talking like they're all CEO's from multinational corporations.

I'd much rather be told to shut up, because they thought I was a pig, than because they think I'm some traitorous form of American.

Then you should have stopped right there. (Altho, I did get a chuckle out of the "moral" vs. "morale" typo)

I think the morale of this board is just fine.

I agree wholeheartedly. The only thing worse than all the purile putrid stench of the
seething evile and venomous hate being spewed back and forth is the patronizing prissyness of these prudes who seem to deem themselves "The Watchers" or "The Keepers" of
what should only be allowed.
Being anal retentive and ever so personality
challenged is no excuse for being a prude and
thumping the book at this pulprit, telling
others how they are bad <George Bush voice: "baaad..baaAaad!", and how we're all drifting from the straight and narrow road of the one true and righteous way to speak of WWI aeronatics and lfight sims.
Cripes, just get over it and have fun. If a discussion is not your type or doesn't suit your liking then just mark 'thread read' and move on along....
You can even take the ball, if it's yours , and go home.

Isn't that exactly the thing you are doing now curly? Why should the rest of us follow *your* rules ?

That is precisely what most of us do Curly. You are one of the exceptions since you obviously dont like this thread, yet you are still here.

Your rule is like this: I dont like this thread, therefore i am going to ruin it so nobody else likes it either.

Yeah bod,

I think it revealing some can be threatened by the posting of somewhat alternative ideas in a General Discussion Post... don't discuss that here it might upset our delicate status quo.
Remember children do not question authority. Do they think if they protect their interpetation of the Commandmants from the creator, the creators (developers) will look down upon them more favorably come judgement day (final release) or somthing?

Lets not make each other each other the subject of this beta like I just did!

Gettin all to silly

*Very* odd interpretation. I popped in and
replied to a whine. Nothing more. Nothing less.
The very subject matter you posted on required no more thought nor effort om anyones part, least of all my own.

Hey ya Curly bastage,

I don't think they, uh, get it.
What say we start a new thread critical of, say Apple Pie? Or maybe Margaret Thatcher nude in the snow? I could think of more, but the last image made my head hurt...

A lot of what you say rings very true Curly.

I remember in the dim, dark days when WB 2.6 was first released, with it's 'new and improved' gun modelling.  A number of guys (myself included) made posts that there was something seriously wrong with the model as it stood - killing shots not doing any damage at all, LW cannon ineffective etc.

The self-appointed 'guardians of WB' launched a fairly vitriolic attack in response, the general trend of their responses was 'don't let the door hit your bellybutton on the way out'.

It was only later that it was found that there WERE in fact severe problems with the gun model, which included lost hits due to low frame rate, mathematical problems with a number of weapons effectiveness etc.

So far, I've found this board to be pretty good - there's always bound to be someone who disagrees with your viewpoint, but it hasn't been the childish rant-fest that one might have expected.

Curly, have i totally misinterpreted you?

The reason i believe i did was when i read Jekyll's post. I too remeber the 2.6 gunnery. "Everyone" said it was so great, but i could not hit anything with it. It turned out that all my shots disapeared due to lost frames because of too weak PC.
