At this rate, I may have to retire my wings

PIII-550 Intel chip. 256K ram. 32 meg TNT2 vid. card. System tweaked for good FR in Falcon 4.  Not so in AH.

2-3 FPS around CV's firing.

7-12 FPS around fields firing at incoming A/C.

Normal flight is about 45 FPS.

Ack puffs kill FR.

CV's firing kills FR.

Simply unplayable at this point for me.

Can you overclock your 550? I'm running a 550 flip chip and it easily handled a 133 bus to give me a 733. Framerate seems ok or at least playable in my one encounter with the CV furball.

rip my friend has p3 500, 32mb tnt2, 128mb, and he is getting maybe 7-10fps less than me with a 900 athlon, 16mb Voodoo3 3000 AGP, 128mb.
Its not your set up rip its somesort of conflicting code/Driver prob i assure you.
I think HTC run some tests on 350mhz comps with voodoo 2's and they work ok.  email htc with your specs/driver vers no.s etc and ask em to suggest any changes you could make, dont give up mate it will get better.
I remember when i first put my new athlon 900 and abit KT133 raid mb with my old voodoo 3 card from my old 350mhz PII my 3Dmark was less!!! i was horrified! i thought id bought a crap FPU processor but it turned out i had a couple of old drivers sitting in my registry.there was no way id have known but i happened to notice the old drivers by accident.I reformatted HD (cause i had nothing i needed to save) and reran 3dmark....2000 point increase! 3700 odd scored

hazed
PS i know for sure my system could run faster but im not bothered at the moment, its fine as it is,so i put up with the strange HD accesses

Wobble, you may be right.

Seems the Voodoo guys are complaining less.

I've got a GeForce STS 32MB and it will chug a bit around the fleet fights.

Thinking I'm going to try a Voodoo myself for the heck of it.

Maybe you guys should go back to Video settings and adjust your resolution down a bit?

You guys with nVidea cards need to get the 6.31 drivers and use NVMax to enable the advanced driver settings. I have a Celeron 466@525 with V770 TNT2 Pro 32mb <hacked Ultra BIOS> and the only real FPS hit I see is in heavy smoke.

I`ll post my system tweaks in the Hardware forum later if you want me to.

I have a p3 450 with 224 megs ram, and a 32meg savage 3d blaster card... FR in flight 40-50 around CV low 20's.. and fields firing hi to low 20's.

It must be something to do with the new version, lots of guys with better computer equipment than i having major problems...

PII 333/mmx Viper V770 32mb Ultra (AGP and aperture in bios set to 64mb) and I'm not doing too bad. Certainly not as bad as in your report Rip    Something just aint right in your system. Drivers, bus issue, something.

Athlon 600
128 ram
Radeon 64DDR
res 1600x1200 32bit

While I have seen a decrease in framerates when it gets hot and heavy, its still well in the smooth range at 30fps average, never below 25.

HT was in the MA tonite talking about floating points or some s@#t like that. Its Swaheli to me. Anyway there seems to be a problem with the PII, and PIII's. I didnt catch the beginning of this discourse or the end Ias things heated up for me at that moment. I have a PIII 800 256 sdram FBS @ 133.Oh and a Voodoo 5500. My fps took about a 20 to 30 hit but I still get in the high 20's around the fleet. I'm sure they have a problem and they know it. They know what it is so there should be a patch before to long I hope. If anybody caught that conversation would you please clarify this so us Un-techy dudes can understand it?

No difference in FR for me.  I would suggest it is your system, not the game, given that just one person getting good results with a low end system, disproves your point.

I'm with Rip.

I've noticed spasmodic pauses near ack firing. IE, if I'm near a CV group when theres big sh*t going down I get these funny little pauses. When I'm near a CV Group thats not in battle I have no problems.

Maybe its not graphics related, maybe its sound queing? IE, If a sh*tload of CV Group acks fire at once or in rapid succession how does that affect the soundcard? Especially a multichannel job like a SB Live (which is what I have).

In the meantime I've taken to avoiding large ship battles.
