Scientists say the temperature of the drink drops to 3C in three minutes and stays cold for up to an hour.
They work on the same principle of evaporation that makes you feel cold when you step out of the shower.
The beer is surrounded by a watery gel which drains off when the bottom of the can is twisted. The bottom also contains an insulated heat-absorbing gizmo.
That makes the temperature of the liquid drop and creates a vacuum which should keep it cold for an hour.
Inventors Tempra Technology have signed a deal with the firm that makes cans for Britain's biggest brewer Bass, Heineken, Coke, Pepsi and Budweiser.
And they plan to put Instant Cool tins on the shelves in July.
Barney Guarino, boss of Florida-based Tempra, said: "It's brilliantly simple. There have been attempts before but we are not aware of a successful mass-produced self-chilling product. This is it. It's finally here."
He says the environment-friendly chiller will bump up the cost of each can by 10 to 20p but expects prices to drop as demand grows.
Mr Guarino added: "It's similar to what people pay at a vending machine compared to a supermarket. Our research shows they won't mind paying for this. It works and it's safe."
