I like the rounded-off hammer idea on auto's (my 6906 smith has it).   but I don't think I'd do it to a revolver.   with the auto once you squeeze off the first one the rest fire on SA, (or if you don't apply the safety after jacking the slide you have SA from the start) so it's worth trading off the loss of accuracy on the first shot for the lowered chance of snagging.  I don't think I'd want to give it up on every shot though,  you might as well just go with the DA only gun.

Thanks guys, I think you misunderstood the term "pack pistol"...  I don't want to use it for a concieled carry weapon, for that I would go with the hammerless 357 pocket pistol.  By pack I meant back packing pistol here in Griz country.  WOuldn't want anything smaller than 41 mag.  The msrp on guns means squat.  I paid $375, got some ammo and a holster thrown in for free.  Best part is I walked in  paid, walked out.  I was so programed from cali's waiting period I was cought off guard.  The guy I bought it from keeps the ammo I like in stock, lots of guides here cary a 41 mag, besides the griz problem, there is that most dangerious large animal here, the cow moose, very vicious....

My main carry weapon is a 638 Smith with the hammer shroud.  It really simplifies drawing the pistol.

I used to have a Ruger .41 Mag Blackhawk...Sweet weapon.
Not too sure about that snub nosed model tho, accuracy at distance will be a problem.

as a pack gun it should be fine.  grizzlies at a distance aren't near so big a problem as grizzlies up close.

I prefer to kill my grizzlies BEFORE they get up close. But that's just me.

generaly, short barrels do not have much effect on accracy except that the sight radius is shorter.    They do affect velocity tho.

lazs
