Gay marriage and religion
« on: May 24, 2004, 03:55:38 PM »
Consider this as a poll. I'm curious to know

a) are you pro or against gay marriage (or you don't give a...)?

a bis) are you pro or against child adoption for gay couples?

b) what is your religion?

I'll begin:

a) pro (in all honesty, it doesn't change my life one bit so if they, consenting adults, want to...)

a bis) against. I agree that some gay couples would be a much better environment for a kid than some families but it is hard to say that it may not have a detrimental psychological effect to the kid later.

b) raised catholic, much more of an agnostic now. I don't mind religious people (christians, muslims, buddhists, jedis...) as long as they are tolerant and open-minded.

Oh yeah....just a warning...the first one to break the 'civil' barrier (me included) drop and do 100 pushups...

I think they should have all the rights of a hetro couple but not a marriage.....call it a gay union of sorts I dont care.

I dont like to call christianity a religion....to me it is a faith but yes I am a christian.

(a.) Pro, nobody's business but theirs.

(a. bis) Pro, indeed many gay couples will prove themselves to be at least on par with many straight parents regarding parenthood. And in a few years noone will notice, remember the first single parent households, hell were they weird...

(b.) Baptized but not practicing. Have great respect for religious people who are motivated by their believes to assist others and feel more purpose in life as a whole. OTOH, I thoroughly detest religious fanatics, meaning everyone who uninvitedly interferes with other people's lifes out of extremist religious beliefs.

1. would never tell someone they could not marry.
But in my eyes it would allways be a joke.

2. No I think kids need the healthy example of a MAN and a WOMAN in the house so the child can learn interactions with the male or females.

OMG!

I'd agree with all three. Except the atheist part. Still too much Catholic guilt to go that far. The nuns might whup me.

If Adam and Steve or Julie and Jane want to hook up, let 'em. What they do in their lives ain't any of my business. Marrage of one form or another has been around longer than some (all?) religions, so anyone should have the right to get married. Regardless of who the other person is.

Kids should be raised in a loving and caring home by two people who are capable parents. If two gays want kids, and they'll be good parents, let 'em adopt.

Born Roman Cathloic, but an athiest since the age of ten. When around religious types I have been known to be a Militant Agnostic at times; I don't know and neither do you.

If a single woman can raise a child, why couldn't a pair of them do it better?
Or a pair of guys for that matter.

Screw marriage licence, let anyone hang out with whoever they choose.  No one else really gets hurt.

But make people PROVE they are capable of raising children. Any idiot can get pregnant & dump the kid on society.
Should have to go through classes, give references, & have at least a moderate fund in escrow to be approved.

As to religion, was raised Methodist, but I left that fold long long ago.
Call me other.
