Need new tires...grrrrrrrr
« on: May 28, 2004, 01:24:34 PM »
Failed the state inspection today because of excessive tire wear.  I tend to slide through the corners and it really chews up the tires.  Any recommendations on some good mid-level tires?

1996 Camaro with alloy wheels.  Right now I have 245/50-16's but I'd like to go back to 235's for now.

Tire Rack

Just went to BIG O' Tires and got the banana in the tail pipe for $20 extra a tire, but they were on in an hour, and the GTP is silent.

GOODYEAR GT EAGLES

Best Tire Made.

Will last a hell of alot longer than the WalMart brand "bargin" tires.

Eagles were originally installed IIRC.  I'd like to have some neato raised white letter tires but they are very hard to find other than those you'd see on grandpa's Oldsmobile.

Thats what I replaced on a 2000 Pontiac GTP. I hit rain at 5,000 feet in Reno and about went from 395 to I 80 without an off ramp. So I went to BigO and just paid the money.

I got 2 for you Jester. $5 a peice, lotsa rubber, in Big 'O plasic bags. Saved me $6 bucks to junk em. Hell, come over, they are yours.

Green is fine if your going the speed limit. $50 is a deal.

Edit- Goodyear is 2X the cash. Up to you.

DiabloTX, check out Kumho tires.  I realize it's not a well known name but read the reviews and surveys on Tirerack.com.  They are for real.  And ~$50 less than the name brands in the sizes you are interested in.

Damn I shoulda read the thread before posting.  Those are the same tires I am running right now.  Not as grippy as my old PZeros but they are quiet, have very nice steering and handling, and should last a lot longer.  And they are @#$@#$ cheap.  :)

And add $7-15 to balance and mount them unless Funkypants has a better solution.

PS I find Tirerack to be a great place to shop for tires, because of all the reviews/surveys/tests, but tires.com actually has stores that will install them for you.  Price includes mounting, lifetime balancing & rotation.

Thanks, looks like I just may go with those.  I have 14 days left to do my state inspection so shipping may be an issue.

And I shoulda re-opened the Fat Gay Bastard AH BBS tire thread before I got raped at Big O, but i was in a hurry. I could have put on BF's for what I did on a cheaper brand. I'll go look, but I didn't do it right. Diablo is way ahead so far.
