Best F-1 Vid Game out there?
« on: May 31, 2004, 11:09:51 PM »
Hey Guys,

Can anyone suggest what is the best FORMULA 1 racing game for the PC that is currently on the market?

Any you can drive against other online players?

Have got interested in it recently and would like to see what is out there.

Tks. !

EA Sports, F1 Challenge 99-02.
Yes you can drive online.  Do a search for "f1rst".
Racesimcentral is a great place to find info.

GPL = Grand Prix Legends
(needs a ton of patching, but well worth it IMO)

Best Steering Wheel Hmmmm....
everyone has a favorite I have a Logitech MOMO which they dont make anymore.

I would definately recommend a force feedback wheel it enhances the experience. Friend of mine likes his Microsoft FF wheel, or a Logitech® Formula™ Force GP both are fairly cheap.

If you have cash to spend go with an act labs or BRD racing wheel.

Check out link to GPL2004 Demo over at SimHQ

F1 Championship 99-02 is errmm  about as boring as real F1 but there are alot of mods that definitely improve the game.

GPL can still be purchased over the web and from the attention the demo is getting I am sure sales are spiking.

Best wheel you can get retail is the Logitech Driving Force Pro.  It's a PS2 wheel but it's fully PC compatible.  Has 900 deg travel, optical sensor, ball bearings, etc etc.
There are some high end wheels like TSW or BRD that are probably better, but they are mega $$$.

KILLER pic! Is that a Lotus or a Kearny Eagle? Might have to look this up too as I really got a thing for the old cars as well. Would be most cool to drive a Phil Hill's 1961 FERRARI 156 around the track.  {Drool!}

Tks for the info guys.   :aok

Funked, I went onto Logitech's website to look for that wheel and there is nothing about it being PC compatible. How does it hook up, is it USB? Do you have to do anything special to get it to work in windows? Thanks.

Driving Force Pro is PC compatible but they aren't gonna tell you as such on the logi website.  I have no friggin clue why not...

My old formula Force GP PC wheel is PS2 compatible too, but of course nothing about that on logi's site.

The wheel connects via USB and the latest logi drivers I believe should have everything u need for the wheel.

Check out a dedicated racing forum such as the one at http://www.racesimcentral.com before you buy.

Ran across this forum - thought I would post it for any GPL fans out there that didn't know about it.

CRASH TEST DUMMIES

http://www.ctd-racing.com/forums

Seems they have a regular racing schedule and teams you can join for online racing. They also have a trophy race you can qualify for - THE CTD CUP.

Thanks again for info guys. !  :aok

Am off to the track. Feel just like James Garner in the movie GRAND PRIX!  WOOHOO!  LOL!  :D

Yeah they don't say anything about it, I have no idea why.  If you get the software from http://www.wingmanteam.com it works perfect.  Yes it is USB.

For the record the Logitech MOMO wheel is back in production. You can get it off their site for $99.
