odd video stuff.
« on: June 09, 2004, 11:21:12 PM »
i dont know a ton about this stuff...

heres a screenshot of AHII:

thats with anti-ailiasing set to 4x on my video card. what is the deal with that?? very annoying.

also FR in-game are not doing well lately. getting 20's in a 4-4 plane fight. 85 if looking into the sun. should they vary that much?

they were the same before i turned on AA.

running desktop and AHII at 1024x768
512 texture size
unlimited fps
unlimited FR to load
detail sliders about 2/3 to highest
all boxes checked

what do i have wrong in this setup that is hindering me? i hear of guys running comparable, even less systems and getting FR that never drop below 40.

if i lower the settings in AH the textures look so bad and jagged it hurts my eyes. trees pop out of nowhere and then disappear again. unplayable to me at least.

so lowering the AHII settings IMHO is not an answer.

what do you think?

Heh I got used to this in AH1 a while ago :)  I never was able to figure out if it was AA or AF that was causing it.  I thought it had to do with the alignment of the textures, but "Alternate Pixel Center" on/checked had no effect.

Try pulling some high-G turns, let me know if you can see a 1 pixel visible 'gap' along the top and left edges of your screen.  At certain settings, I've actually been able to see (within that 1 pixel gap) behind the blackout.

73 that has always done that with AA and AF seems in the smoothing out process it actually highlights that side of the texture, been playing around with the actual file as a result to see if it can be eliminated.

I'll let you know if I succeed.

yes on the 1 pixel border when in a blackout.

i tried everything i know (reloaded AHII from scratch, reloaded vid drivers after deleting them fully, and so on).

i cant help but wonder if either my moniter is holding me back, or my system had a bad part (MB, memory, processor, something).

my moniter can do 1280x1024, but only at 60hz.
max 1024x768 is 85hz.

my video card i know can handle alot more than that. could a moniter slow down games?

Had a 17" monitor until about 2 years ago when I got this Ti4400 put on full eye cany and ran 3D Mark demo and stutter stutter stutter, was like WTF.

So my Tech determins maybe my monitor cant handle whats being pumped into it, while attempting to purchase a 19" sony trinatron I end up with a 21" samsung syncmaster as a result of a long car ride only to have the sony I oredered sold by mistake.

Been great ever since, best thing I've purchaded in a long time.

Good analogy, crappy tires on a Ferrari does that make sence?

and yes even on my monitor I get those glitches it's an issue with the drawing and the AA smoothing process.
