« on: June 13, 2004, 04:42:14 PM »
my frame rate sucks in ah2 during dogfighting! anyway to improve this? would expect this if there were mulitple cons but im talking one on one. fps's drop from the norm of like 24 fps to the front 30 on the sides horrible to the rear and like 89 looking up to 12 during dogfighting, have already upgraded my video card and ram from a geforce 64 mb to what i have now and from 256 mb ram to what i have now in order to be able to play the new ah2 version hopefully i wont need a super computer inorder to play this game, or as they say "another one bites the dust"...

emachines t2482
windows xp
amd athlon 2400
1.99 ghz
768 mb ram

DevilM

you may just need to tweak your settings and update your dirvers for your video card ( there is a new Cat driver out  Cat4.6 ) etc.....

I am running
athlonXP1700 256 meg ram
Ati Radeon9000 64 DDR

and am getting normally 60 to 80 + dropping to  27+ in hvy multiplane furballs over smoking bases.

new video drivers can be found here:
Ait Video Drivers

also  try using 256 or 512  size textures  and screen res of 1024x768

people on the boards here could help more if they new what settings you had for your video in the game, etc....
"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

The 9200 is a pretty low end card.  Reduce the texture size in Aces High II, set the video to 1024x768, adjust the sliders in the graphic details towards the performance side.

Skuzzys rite. I have a 9200ATI readon 128 and all I did was adjust the Quality settings in the ati software on click before the end towards performance. I get a steady 70 to 80 fps in a big furball mabye down to 60fps in AH2

Radeon is a generic name plate for ATI's current line of cards. In that line are many performance options. The 9000 to the X800 series.
The 9000, 9100, 9200 cards are the low end of the line.
The 9500, 9600 cards are midrange.
The 9700 and higher are the top end.

Anything with an 'SE' desgnator drops a level in the performance tier. A 9800SE is about as fast as a 9600XT.

Anything with an XT is the top of the line for that numerical model number.

The opposite is true of NVidia (have to love marketing). In the NVidia line, the XT is the lowest performer in the product line, the SE are the average performers, and the Ultra is the higher end performer.

The FX line is comprised of the 5200 through 6850 (the 6800 series is starting to trickle into the market).

The 5200 being the slowest and the 6850Ultra being the fastest.

With very few exceptions, the 256MB versions of video cards use slower ram and perform slower than the comparable 128MB video card version.  The current exceptions to this are the ATI 9800XT and the NVidia 5850Ultra (more new ones are on the way in this category).
Video cards use very expensive ram, so to keep the purchase price within reasonable limits, the video card companies compromise the performance by using cheaper, slower rams, on the 256MB video cards.

In general, you get what you pay for, in terms of video cards today.  If you pay $80 U.S., or less, for a video card today, you really need to lower your expectations of what that video card will perform like.  Ignore the marketing on the box as it is there to entice you to purchase it.

No its not a crappy card:) it runs great on my machine. And it only cost me 75.00. Heres a link that might help

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

you might need to uninstall old driver and software. Or try reistalling the driver that came with the card then try installing the new one

Well Darn it skuzzy, I Guess then that 50 fps in AH2 is pretty good considering I have a Nvidia5200fx 256 card that plugs into a PCI slot LOL.
Only problem i have is a furball in the beta, and I think once you guys tighten up the bandwidth, that might improve too.  Plus I still need to shut off a lot of Apps useing the computer when i play anyway LOL
