Sandman, how much "discomfort" does the shock cause?

My friend said it felt like someone inserted a hot poker in his.. well you know... but that it only hurt for a second or two and then took a few seconds for him to collect his thoughts.(This may have been the alchohol, we were pretty looped)

I have a good electric fence story, when I was about 14 me and a friend were out riding our bikes and we stopped at one of the farms in our town, there was this kid about 10 years old standing insided the fence petting a horse, me and my friend warned him to watch out for the fence since he was pretty close. He then went on to say that it wouldnt shock him and he actually grabbed ahold of the fence and nothing no shock, well then we noticed that he was wearing running shoes and told him it must be the rubber soles stopping him from getting zapped. At that point he takes off his shoes and says is not watch, he reaches out and grabs the fence at the same time he is petting the horse and BLAMO he gets floored and that horse bolted so fast, I wanted to laugh but I was more concerned about the poor kid, after I saw he was alright and we were away me and my friend laughed so hard lol, god I miss living in the country.

Peeing on the fence normally would not give you a shock but in steves case I dont doubt it happened, after lots of experience with those fences if his friend was standing it a wet environment and depending on what shoes he was wearing its very very possible he got it good :rofl :rofl :rofl

I worked with a guy a few years ago in the shipyards.  we where working in the rain, and everything was grounded.  I was fitting the parts up and he was welding them.

the guy was a ******* and not at all careful where he struck his arc.  if he initiated it on the piece in my hand (instead of on the main part of the ship and then connecting to my piece) it would shock the hell out of me (125 amps at about 45 volts).  so by lunch time the guy had shocked me about a half-dozen times in about as many parts.

during lunch I thought it through, and stopped by the tool-room for a large handful of rags that I stuffed up under my coat.

when he dropped his hood to start the next weld, I dropped the handful of dry rags and stepped up onto them to insulate myself.  I then dropped my glove and grabbed a hold of his ear just as he shocked me.  the current went through my arms and (since I wasn't grounded), hit him in the ear.  then I let go of his ear just as it hit, that burnt my finger a little (more a bad sting than any damage), but had a lot more impact on his ear.

we worked together in the rain for the rest of the week.  he managed to be careful enough not to shock me for the rest of the week.

It was uncomfortable, but not unbearable. Just had to get your head around the fact that it was going to hurt and then bite the bullet and do it.

Helping Mum put up the Xmas tree lights one year, I put my finger into the bayonet fitting of the extension cord without realising that Mum had already plugged it into the mains. My gawd, 240V AC 50Hz - I felt as if the house around me was trying to shake the life out of me.

The other shock was last year, firing Lazs's .44 Magnum. I knew I was in for a surprise. Damn thing nearly knocked me over backwards.

Steve - I have a variation on the cattle fence wire and peeing. I'll email you. ;)

I worked at an asphault plant once. It was a portable plant set up in a rock quarry and we bought bulk water from them for our plant. Our supervisor Keith had to manually throw a 440V switch to turn on the water pump. The switch was located in a small cinderblock building next to the spraybar all the trucks had to drive under to wash their rock. After all the years of silt and mud had accumulated and it began to back up into this little building.
Keith drives over to the building and walks in to turn on the pump like he had 1000 times before. BAM! He never touched the switch, but standing in the mud grounded him enough for the voltage to arc and hit him square in the chest. It slammed him back against the wall and knocked him out. He was none the worse for wear except for some singed chest hair and a smoking jacket. 1 lucky guy!
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

A few years ago I was trying to find a fault in my car because it ran badly. I checked the wires to plugs and BAM! -found the defective plug. The shock was so strong that I hit the back of my head on the underside of the hood and thus threw it off the hook that was holding it up. Luckily I had enough inertia from the jolt that flung me backwards that my hands only just slipped from beneath the hood as it slammed shut. If the jolt would have been a tad lighter I'd be called "The Duck".

".44 Magnum" I have one of those too (Mod.629 Stainless 8 1/8 inch barrel). It's funny to watch as my friends fire it the first time... :D

When I was 4 years old I invented the plastic lightbulb...

I borrowed a plasitic bulb from my brother's magicians kit, wrapped wire between two nails(filament),shoved it inside the bulb and glued it..then got some more wire and wrapped it around the two nail ends.

Took the two wire leads to the nearest outlet and stuck them in.

POOF!!!

It lit up for a second as I was blown clear across the room.

I then discovered shortly after I was empathic and could hear women's thoughts.

Great Stories!

Yesterday I went in to work and dreaded the thought of having to use it, Fortunatley my co-worker tried it first but it didnt work.

He tried it on all the outlets in that corner of the Kitchen, Nope.

We called maitenence, and they came down and tested the outlets, I must have tripped the breaker in all those outlets!

Good thing it did, Or I might not have gotten to tell you about it.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Once during the '70s when my band was touring around the U.S. I managed to shock myself real good.

I was coming down a set of stairs on the left of the stage, our singer/rhythm guitarist was coming down the right as our bassists usually flew through the air in those days, and when I put my hand on the railing I got the sh*t shocked out of me.  Turned out the guitar was not properly grounded.

After being knocked out a few minutes I awoke and found that I couldn't feel my fingers so I figured this gig is over.  Well, the crowd starts chanting my name over and over so I say what the hell I'll play.  Turned out to be a good show after all, I was running on adrenaline and somehow made it through.

Funny thing is that I wrote a song about this incident that became rather well known.  It's called "Shock Me', you may have heard it.

Not my story, but a friend of mine was telling me how once he came upon a car wrecked into a pole one rainy night. He watched as the woman tried to get out of the car even though the lines had fallen all over it, and she took the full force of the shock. Body caught fire and everything. When the police finally showed she was doa.

He actually had to go in as a witness for her family's insurance claim against the power company recently.

I happen to know for a fact that "Weed Burner" type electric fences will knock you on your arse.
I was staying with a friend, we were out at the barn and I had to take a leak...as i'm pissin out the back door doug hollared something to me I turned to see what he was hollerong about. As I turned the piss stream just happened to hit the electric fence...all i remember was a Flash of bright light and and my body locking up with every muscle contracting for a split second. This also stopped me from peeing. So the next thing i remember feeling is that it felt like I had laid my dick on a stump and let somebody wack it with a sledge hammer. I have watched that TV show and I have noticed they don't do a very good job. If they wanted to really test this, they could have went to a real farm, and peed on a weed burner electric fence themselves to test it as it won't kill you.. I can tell you for a fact it will light your prettythang up!
