would like a better turning a6m3 22 or 32

22 was king of turn with its standard wings while 32 had shorter wings like a6m5 yet both were lighter than the a6m5

the a6m5 can be paced in turns by spit5 it seems especially if the spit5 is light on fuel.

Fester, what are the differences between the 22 and the earlier A6M2-21 (other than the engine itself.)  I found some stats on the 21 vs the 32, and it looked like the 32 just had a better top speed and cruising speed.  The 21 turned faster, though at the same radius as the 32, and the 21 had the greater range (because the 32's engine consumed more fuel and they decreased the fuel capacity.)  Also, it said the 21 could carry two wingmounted bombs.  Was that possible with the 22 and 32?  If the performance isn't that much better for the 22 over the 21, I'd rather see the A6M2-21, and pair it with some P40's and F4Fs for some good early PTO action, though the A6M3s were in service before Guadalcanal so you could still do early PTO I guess.   :)

amazing what you can find in a short amount of time looking on the web.

The A6M3 32 is inferior to the 22 for a few reasons.

It has less range, and poorer armament.
The A6M3 22 uses those wonderful Type99-2 20mm cannons. The A6M3 32 uses the Type99-1.
The Type99-1 carried 60 rounds per gun, and those rounds were woefully slow in the muzzle velocity department. The Type99-2 carried 100 rpg and had substantially higher muzzle velocity.
The Type99-2 fired a round as heavy, or heavier than the Hispano 20mm, though the ROF of the gun was about 1/2 that of the Hispano.

Anyway, the A6M3 22 would be a much better Zero option than the A6M3 32.

...also the A6M5c would be a very nice addidtion to the Zero stable. The "gunboat" of the A6M series, it carried 3x13mm+2x20mm Type99-2. However, it used the same Sakai engine as the A6M5a, but with about 600lbs more wieght! *yeck* Still, it would be nice option zero to have, and if you put the 250kg bomb rack on the belly, you get the A6M7!
