P-47 skin problem, cowling
« on: July 16, 2004, 02:18:37 PM »
Hi, I am trying to a checker cowl P-47 skin, but it seems the top of the cowling cannot be done. instead of a checker, you get a long stripe across the top of the cowl. Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks

I've had the same problem with the B-17 on the forward bottom and all top surfaces.  If the pixels at the break line smear over the entire top surface, you won't be able to make it look right but try compressing your checkerboard to one pixel at the break line and continue with your pattern for the rest of the top.  I don't think it will work but it's worth a try.

Check to see it there is a separate cowling file.
Easy in-game again.

yes a lot of the skins have this stretching problem.. when the original skins were produced they were not intended to be altered. now that we can edit skins this short comming has become a pain in the arse.. you have to live with it or wait for a fix from htc..

Doing checkers on the cowling of a 47 will send you to the rubber room..

Besides the stretch there's overlap. You also have alot of stretch on the right side fuse. It's practically impossible.

You "might" be able to do it but..

I'd suggest sucking on a gun barrel before doing checkers on a Jug :D

I love the language, very colorful. :D

Still, from your screen shot I'd say it could be done well enough but lots of work.  Not to sure about the bottom though.

I found on the P47D-11 the top is stretched from the canopy to the cowling also. I've done 3d modeling and mapping of a number of planes before and have seen this type of distortion.

When the 3d model was "mapped" to the 2d picture, the cowling top portion was never mapped seperately. It is actually a side view of the very top of the portion which was "mapped". Thereby giving the stretched look.

The best thing to do is to ensure the camo in that portion flows straight over the top.

Hope this helps
