Patch 6 report
« Reply #15 on: July 22, 2004, 08:28:02 AM »
Update on Framerates.

Even with all sliders moved to the right including ground detail I still get a serious framerate drop when near the ground. Especially when there are a ton of planes around.

Otherwise Level of detail and displayed object size sliders have no effect whatsoever when moved below 75% to the left (or to detail over performance) at any altitude.
the only time moving these two sliders has an effect on frames is when its moved past 75%

Ground detail has a major effect on frames. but again really only when Im away fom the ground. Near the ground with alot of planes around forgeddaboutit Im back in the teens again.

Cant fight in largelow furballs unless they are over water
and even then it can be a challange

Dunno why but Frames seem to take a larger dip when Im in a turn going left or right rather then up and down in a loop. Thus I can make a diving or srafing run on a gound target so log as I fly in a straight line when exiting.

Stutters intermittently comming back from time to time(still better then patch 5)
Warping is very common
CTD's becomming more numerous
And these arent just for me.
The other night my squad went to the CT to escape the hordes and each one of us without exeption got a CTD the first time we pressed the fire buttons to shoot..

Ok gave me much better frames on runway (30+)
Still go in the toilet when in a large furball.
Current maps being what the current maps are.
Just about EVERY fight is a large furball
Seems frames now are numbers related More then anything else. that is related to how many planes are in the area.

Also GVing frames rarely get out of the 20s at best
Lotta freezeframes.
Since latest patch (test) Sometimes sound doesnt work untill I fire my main gun in a tank

Also get a large pause occasionally that seems to be sound related while both in Planes and Gvs, but cant narrow it down to any particular sound.
one time 1 sound may cause the pause. another time it may be another sound

Gonna try uninstalling then reinstalling AHII and see if that helps

ATI vs. Nvidia
« Reply #18 on: July 25, 2004, 09:50:03 PM »
I'm pretty happy with it.  My set up is kind of odd to me now.  I'm still running the nvidea 64 meg.  It's working great.

In smokey hanger Frame rates dropped to 37.  Outside It was running 65 to 75.
My frame rate icon looks like this:
Frm 37
Vid 63.8  Used 26.1
System 1023.5  Used 446.7
Tex 45.5

I have a
P4 3 ghz
Abit Ic7g MOBO
1 gig DDR 3200 ram
creative audigy platinum 2 sound
directx 9b
xp pro

I was running ATI 9800 radian 256/256, but switched to the chaintek nvidia 64 with surprisingly similar results (thats why its odd).

I did use a PNY 128 nvidia and experienced crash to desk top etc and got rid of that.

I do get stutters when I key the mic to transmit, but other than that it rocks.  Thanks NOJACK:p
