P-40B vs A6M2 Stats
« on: July 20, 2004, 05:56:11 PM »
A6M2 has 94 Kills of P-40B
P-40B has 27 Kills of A6M2

Need I say more? However, since the F4F-4 seems to be doing so well, its hard to justify enableing the  P-40E. BUt the again, it would represent what realy happened with the planes that were really there

A6M2 has 349 Kills of F4F-4
F4F-4 has 450 Kills of A6M2

;)

I have 102 kills of A6M-2s with the Wildcat, to 9 deaths.

Remove my stats and the numbers are:

A6M2 has 340 Kills of F4F-4
F4F-4 has 348 Kills of A6M2

Pretty even.

Consider that most of the time the Japs have been outnumbered, and I’d say the Zero has put up one heck of a fight.  This is one scenario where the Allies truly need numbers to stand a chance.  Wildcat pilots in WWII basically said the same thing.

Other than it would be accurate.

I have 56 some odd vulches and 7 deaths vs A6M2 (14 is SBD) so maybe the F4F-4 sucks after all ?

I believe the P-40E was around during the first battles of the war.. i.e. the Phillipines campaign and Pearl Harbour.. it certainly would have been around for any guadalcanal campaign.

The p40e does not perform that much better than the b, but the guns would help.

Hmmm.  Reasonable minds might differ on this.  I think the E is a great plane, but the B is a deathtrap.

I'd love to find out how the planes fare against one another in AH2, Ki-61 vs P-40B/E and A6M2 vs F4F-4, but.......
Last night all the Wildkitties I saw were safely dancing about in the ever so friendly fleet ack, I never got the chance to engage even one of em without tracers from the fleet defences streaking all around me.  Lost engines to acks twice, never took even a ping from an enemy fighter til after my engine was knocked out.......
From what I did see, the P-40E would have been the better choice.  P-40B is not a total deathtrap, but too many times we look at top speed only and don't think about the fact that it takes that bird almost a whole sector to reach it in level flight acceleration.
Ki-61, IMHO, should be matched up against the P-40E, not the B.
A6M2 vs F4F-4.......nice matchup.....winner dependant on pilot skill and how the fight is set up.
Now that I am just a player again, maybe I can spend more time flying and having fun and exploring these matchups.........:aok

The Zeke is toast against U.S. iron.  Check the roster when there is a US/Jap planeset, it's always 2:1 in favor of U.S., because no one wants to be a target in the zeke.  That's why the Japs need the Ki-44, something that can BnZ with the U.S. birds.  And the Ki-84 for fighting late war U.S. birds.   In a zeke you're gonna die, it's just a question of when.

Disagree.  In a co-alt one-on-one, the F4F is toast.  I've killed enough pilots who I KNOW are better than me, that this is now an article of faith.  As Eskimo pointed out (somewhere), Wildcats win when they have a numbers or altitude advantage, but not otherwise, and this is historical.  Actually, this is about the only setup when I think it's a good thing for the allies to have about a 1.5 to 1 numbers advantage.

Learn your terms.  Most of my kills were Cherry-Picks.  Less than 1/4 were vulches.
