disco'ing alot since ah2
« on: July 24, 2004, 03:49:11 PM »
I have disco'd 11 times in the 28 hours I have played this month.  It has happened three times today.  Very frustrating!

I can think of only about twice that I disco'd in ah1.  Some say it is the patch 6 but it has been happenening to me since ah2.

Any ideas?  I have always had a very solid cable connection until now.  When I look at the network stats all seems well.  I never get the beacon or "switching to tcp" messages, etc.  Try resetting all my equipment, updating my firmware in my Linksys router, keeping WinXP up to date, but nothing helps.  I'll be just flying along and all of a sudden I'm looking at the desk top.

I've been thinking back on these discos and I think most of them occur when I fire my guns.  I wish my memory was better but the three today were certainly in the midst of combat.  One I remember very well:  I was pulling onto a guy's 6 and the instant I pulled the trigger, I was at the desktop.

thanks

It could be sound card related.

1)  Try setting the hardware sound accleration to 3/4 from Full in DXDIAG Sound tab (Start->Run->DXDIAG).
2)  Make sure you have the latest sound card drivers for your computer.
3)  Check to see if the sound card is sharing an interrupt (IRQ) with another high data demand device, such as the network card or video card.  If it is, then you should work to get the sound card on its own interrupt as sound card do not share interrupts well at all.
4)  If you are using a USB based sound card problems like this won;t be too uncommon, but by reducing the hardware acceleration and not having any high data demand device on the USB bus, and making sure you have the latest USB drivers for your motherboard, you can alleviate most of this.

Good luck.
