P-38 Pilot wounds?
« on: July 30, 2004, 10:16:23 PM »
Before I go whining on the Bug forum, has anyone else noticed
a huge increase in the percentage of pilot wound hits since 2.06?

Of course this is subjective, but it seems like almost 50% of
my "hits" are now resulting in a pilot wound, but only in the 38.
Since I can't remember 2 pilot wounds in a year of AH1, was just
curious.

I get them often in the mossie when attacking buffs too.  I usually finish of the buffs though.:)

since new patch, think ive flown 5 times, 3 times i landed with no hits, other 2 times had pilot wounds from first hits, then got finished off.  so yea, if i get hit, i get a pilot wound, tho it is a very small sampling.

I seem to notice an increase in pilot wounds as well. Especially attacking bombers, or strafing. Seems every encounter with AAA, especially unmanned AAA, leads to a pilot wound. Very annoying.

I got a pilot wound from dead six, even though doesn't the blue navy planes (save for some) have a metal armor plate in the back to prevent this?

P-38 has no engine in front to absorb bullets, so it seems logical that you might get more PW's than in other types.
If you want to avoid your pilot getting wounded, all you have to do is avoid places where there are bullets and shrapnel in the air!
FOr example, my pilot NEVER gets wounded in the off-line fights against the drones.....:D

Well what happened someone whinned to HTC about it and thats how we got the drastic increase in pilot wounds on the 38
When I die bury me in a P38.

I watch day after day, week after week, tour after tour, the Bishops and Rooks take bases and win maps while the Knights stand there with their thumbs stuck in their butts. It's just pathetic!

The twin counter rotating props seem to create a vortex between them that entrains incoming projectiles directly into the windscreen.  :aok

Have you ever actually SEEN a P-38? :)  Btw, my PWs are
coming from 6 oclock and AAA..not HOs.  One of the annoying
things about them is that the first indication I have one is the
black out.

Guess I'm not the only one noticing after all.

It does however have an approx 9ft long 20mm cannon, 4 .50 cals, and ammo hoppers in the nose.  Then there is a steel slab between the nose and the cockpit, plus the flat armored glass winshield angled to deflect projectiles.

Mabey the causes of these percieved increased occurance of pilot wounds will become more appearent when the bullet strike graphics are modeled for the P-38.
