If they didn't charge 16-20 dollars for a 2 dollar CD that only had one or two songs I like on it, I wouldn't pirate it. I do and I don't care. I keep my machine pretty secure, and burn the mp3's to CD's then delete em.

Afaik if you move the mp3s from your shared folder to any other unshared folder, they wont touch you.

I read a quote a while back from the RIAA saying exactly that.  They were more or less saying 'we dont care if you do it, just dont make it available to others'.

Also afair from the same article, they would only prosecute if you had more than 1000.  It was around the time the young girl was getting prosecuted.  There was some hysteria over here cos it was reported that the girl (was she about 5-7?) only had nursery rhymes.  It came out later tho that she had a couple of thousand mp3s.

Does anyone remember this?  It was probably about 6-9 months ago iirc.

See!!!

Never ever let your children download hip/hop, pop, rock music from P2P. Teach them how to save their allowance so they can buy CDs. Also watchout for those CDs that has "Parental Advisory: explicit content" sticker.

Is'nt it ONLY legal if you download files from a P2P network that you pay for? Anything you download such as MP3's and videos must bepayed for? Could'nt it all be classified as "promotional material"?

If they wouldn't charge $25,000 for a car I only want to drive for a few hours I wouldn't have to steal them for a joyride.

I know, doesn't that suck. It's so hard to sell those cars after you've had your fun...

Music Piracy actually fights  terrorism.  When you don't buy a CD, you don't  give money to the record companies, which in turn don't give money to the artists.  That way the artists have less money to buy drugs with.  As we all have been told ad nauseum, drug money funds terrorists.
Download with pride, you're making the world a safer place.

oh, and for music sharing, Soulseek gets my vote hands down.
