Sounds good...

Quote
Monday starts a new tour that will bring with it some new changes. First, we have a new server that will now host the main arena. Second, we have two new terrains for the main that will be released. Third, terrain changes will no longer occur with tour resets. Instead, terrains will rotate every time the war is won.
For the two new terrains, we took real geographic locations but changed the scale and put in airfield locations suitable to good play. One is based on Scandinavia/Baltic Sea and the other is based on a mountainous island of Mindanao in the Phillipines. More than just a change of scenery, they create very different game dynamics.

The Mindanao terrain is currently available for download by logging into the "Main Arena Next Tour" selection. Both terrains will be available for download on our webpage Monday.

This terrain looks great and I like the move towards the more "realistic" look, but I'd really like to see some much bigger terrains.

Is there a limit of some kind on how large the terrain can be? If so, what is that limit?

The max terrain size is 512mi x 512 mi. The reason why none have been made for MA is probably the amount of work involved in building a terrain that size. I've messed around in the terrain editor some, and one that size is enormous when you get down to the nitty gritty of objects, terrain height, textures, etc. they don't just pump these things out in a day   :)
If i remember right, Verm's CMED terrain was 512x512...not sure tho, but i remember it gave him a hell of a time, and took him quite a while to get right.

I give a hearty <S!> to all the terrain builders, the job is tedious in the extreme.

512x512 is a LOT of square miles!

While I do hope to eventually see a terrain that size make it too main, mindanao works just fine for now.  :)

Keep it up HTC!

"we took real geographic locations but changed the scale and put in airfield locations suitable to good play"

Slowly, slowly. Step by considered step. Building on what has been tried and tested; continually adding more detail, more features. Just add patience.

I rather like the reasoned pace that builds towards the ultimate goal in a way that doesn't disappoint but rather continually enthuses your customer base.

Salute HTC. A VERY nice terrain.
