Yeah ... Chuck Pillsbury's plane. The only VF-17 airframe currently known to exist (there may be some underwater somewhere). Cool stuff there. Even though I knew about it, thanks.

Hey Hawk

There is possible a chance that there couple Corsairs(VMF-312) still exist on Okinawa, including Major Richard M. Day Corsair, but I could be wrong and after war was over, mostly of them tow them away or burn them. Beside there is alot wreckage Corsairs in the Pacific and Australia also have full of WWII and Post WWII Aircraft Junkyard in middle of the desert.

I know that the Aussies went in and recovered the few remains that were to be found but did they also recover the remaining aircraft parts or not? I would be interested to find out if they had the remains of the plane.

I don't think they didn't recover, I think they just leave it alone like a coffin or something.

I really don't think there is any real VF-17 F4U-1A today.

Heck, I was thinkin about my College career that I wanted to be Aviation Archaeology and I am still thinking about that, but it take years to become Aviation Archaeology(they don't make much money but don't care).

Many things that I know Vought F4U-1A of VF-17 Jolly Rogers are still around in the Pacific Island Junkyard which I was hoping Tom Blackburn Big Hog will be there, but after WWII many of war planes including early F4U Corsair were in fate unknown.
