99% CPU usage with AHII
« on: August 24, 2004, 08:49:12 AM »
With OzKanzsas effect on FPS  I decided to tighten things up on my computer.  I used fsautostart program to stop and shutdown all unnessary programs+ services.  Someone on an early thread mentioned that AHII utilized up 600mb of memory, and that if you had 512 this could be a problem.  I ran task manager after logging in and found that AHII was using 220mb of system memory.

However I did discover that AHII was utilizing  97-99% of my CPU, while I was sitting in the tower.  I recently defragged the harddrive, have norton antivirus updated etc...   Additionally, and I dont know if this helps or not, but it said 402mb of "page file memory" were being used which appeared to be about 50% of what was available.  I dont know what that is, or what it does but just wanted put it here if its something important.

Can anyone tell me why all my CPU is being used by AcesHIgh?  Is this normal?  I mean the meter is PEGGED on the task manager.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Balsy

Im assuming you still have 99% usage after you've shut
down the background services.   May want to list
your peripherals as well.  Some sound cards are CPU hogs.

Sblive value sound card (added it to my original post).  and the fsautostart program shuts down all background services and programs that are unnecessary.

Let me know what else I need to post.

Thanks,

I have heard the SBlive 5.1's are CPU hogs, and that is
what i have.  Not sure about the Value one.  If you installed all the fancy sound drivers with it, remove them and reboot.  Let windows assign its own generic drivers for it.  Couldn't hurt
to give that a try.  You can always remove the generic ones if
that didn't help.  I heard about the SBlive's being CPU hogs from
posts on this BBS, but talking to a tech friend of mine, she advised the CARD isn't the CPU hog..its the drivers that make the card do all its fancy stuff that can be taxing on the system rescources.

Yah I did that too, still 99%, it did drop the memory usage and page file down some, but still CPU pegged.

You should be concerned if Aces High II is not using 99% (or better) of the CPU.  DirectX is designed to run at 100% CPU utilization.  It has the highest priority when running.

If you are dropping below 99%, then something else is sucking up CPU cycles from the game.  The major side effects from this can be disco's, loss of UDP, video stutters, sound loss, vox loss, and warping.

Ah... the rules bar me from stating tongue  in cheek that I was looking for that extra 1% CPU utilization.

Thanks all, thought for some reason it was a problem.:D
