Ack Accuracy.. "it's fine as it is"
« on: January 22, 2000, 12:46:00 PM »
Queried HiTech on line regaring current ack accuracy.. and was told that it's fine as it is.. that JABO is 'possible' but 'very difficult'

He indicated to Pongo last night on line that buff ranges and accuracy are fine.. and that he can't remember the last time he was killed by a buff..

I guess it is possible; I admit, I do not know how to do JABO succesfuly against an ack. Possibly someone can tell me.. mayhaps even demonstrate it. (film!) Certainly, I am NOT the most skilled player in the game.. and need to learn some new tricks in gettin ORDS on target. A new challenge..

As for buffs.. well; I'll avoid the damn things unless assisted by one or two others.
The gunner can't be on both sides at once...

"Aces High is designed to be very representative of air combat through the use of real world tactics."

As it is; I guess I can live with it. Close enuff; anyway.   Don't mind me; I'm just having a little trouble with mastering the tactics part, at present.

Hangtime,

Killing ack with JABO is possible but VVEERRYY difficult.  First the bomb must hit dead center, If it hits just slightly off no damage is done.  Second, seeing the ack installation before it opens up on you is almost impossible.

The method I use is to come in at about 10k, get almost directly over the ack and start a near vertical dive.  I release the bomb at about 5k and pull out in a diving sweeping turn.  Climb back to altitude.  If you hit the ack you will see a message in the radio buffer.

I also think the ack is a little too accurate, but if HT is going to keep it like that, well thats his decision.  The problem I have is the rockets.  It seems that they do little to no damage at all.  I seem to recall those being compared to the 5" guns on destroyers and cruisers.

Rgr that, Hang
Been trying this unsuccesfully offline some lately. Havent hit a target yet, let alone survive
I think it could be done by a sharp group, but death will be involved.

well i think the acks are too stinkin accurate to be realistic ,if it is gonna stay that way ,just throw all the fighter ordenance right out of the window ,no use for it anyway.( strafing the field is much faster and more precise once the aks are down!!)
And if they want too keep it that way at least they could make the  acks visible from 10K up so you have a target to drop on (if ya crazy enough to try)

cya up there

You miss quoted me hangtime. I said I can't rember the last time I was exploded by a buff i.e. not just missing stuff and going down in flames.

The descusion we were haveing was not about beeing killed or shot down. But wrather the consentration on fire in a buff.

2 ack field is pretty easy to jabo.. though, only thing I see most difficult problem, is that those "/#¤#&% bombs tends to drop same time!

What I do is...
Grab 9-12k altitude in a Spitfire or P-51
take about 45-60 degree dive angle with idle engine
point my nose bit below the target ack
(ack overshoots you then)
When theres enough speed and enough close to hit for sure, ill nose just SLIGHTLY above the target ack and release bomb
Then ill take another ack on the same pass
(has to line up attack, so you get both acks)

Lesson is... never ever head straight into the ack or keep nose at it for long time.
This laser ack doesnt take a note on your stick yanking, just on that where you are IF you head straight, without any path changes.

--------*   <- straight path, it counts hits at *

        /
-------/*  <- curve makes ack shoot at the point where your plane would be if you dont turn, so, it misses.

LOL, I remember the first day I played. I loaded up a P51 with rockets and bombs and strafed a field that didnt have its ack down.  I killed one ack emplacement and barracks.  From only 5k or so.  Of course, I got shotdown

Ahhh. My apologies HiTech.. I was interpeting the converstion incorrectly then. I thought the subject under discussion was dying while attempting to kill a buff.

I missed the diffrence between 'being exploded' and being 'shredded'.
