AH = $29.95 FA2 = $9.95 Why? Convince Me
« on: January 22, 2000, 04:40:00 PM »
I've just come into AH within the last 2 days and I will tell you that I am impressed by what I see.  During the last year I've become addicted to FA and then FA2 flying about 3 hrs. per day religiously.  I would like to have some honest feedback from anyone who has flown them both which might convince me that it's better to pay 3 times as much.  Money is not the important thing to me.  As a former CFI and WWII history buff I'm more interested in reality e.g. flying without tags, true stall spin modeling, true aicraft modeling not changed to make all airplanes the same etc.  Let 'er rip.  Again, in closing, I think this game has a lot of promise but to be good one has to stick to one game.  Which one should it be?
Thanks
Beeg

Greetings!

As a veteran of these silly online flight sims for 8 years and a RL pilot as well, I can confidently state that this is the best modelled online sim you will find.

There are always probs with all products as it is hard to please everyone, but this is the best effort I have seen to date, and I have played them all.

Just remember...the other that you have played has time on its side....this is still a beta of 3 months

Good Luck and Cyas Up!

Rude...............Out!

Well IMO it`s Aces High hands down winner! FA/FA2 was/is very arcadish and of generally poor quality in comparison to AH. The flight model of AH is high fidelity and based on the best information HTC can obtain about actual performance and characteristics of the aircraft modeled. The graphics are top notch and will become even better as this sim matures. The rate of progress/updates moves very quickly-sometimes weekly updates are released! HTC previously produced the finest WW II combat flight simulator ever released (until AH)Warbirds, but have IMO raised the benchmark again with this sim. The producers are closely involved with the customer base and take time daily to come in the arenas and chat/answer questions.Another factor is HTC is a small company with one product they focus on.Microsloth-well no need to go there.   I`ll close by pointing out the quality of the community and the caliber of competition in the arenas-you wont see any kEwL DuDeZ in the arena.

Beeg,
I flew under the nick WM_Rattler in FA and FA2, and I know you to be a quality sim pilot.

If you are looking for good graphics, good flight modeling, and a good immersive experience than AH should be your pick.  Also the strat modeling.

Since I've started flying AH, I haven't looked back, and its going to keep on developing at a strong pace.

I'm voting w/my checkbook, and it will be AH.

To answer your question, Beeg, I'd put my money on AH.

Hey Rattler long time no see. Now I know where you went. Ohhhh who am I you ask..... lets see hmmmmm maybe a hint. I flew under you in a historical event. Still can't remember.... I was a Squad CO. MORE?........  Had my entire squadron flying for ya in there. Still More....... ok does that name above ring a bell...now just add a TAG to the front and a GEN to the end and you get TAG_Condor_GEN. I guess I'll install this software and jump in there and give this a try. Look for ya in the skies M8....

Am I convinced? No.  The flight model is superb and the planes are modeled wonderfully.  Do I enjoy the game?  No. Well sometimes....when I dont have to fend off 5 enemy at a time its a great game.

These three sided wars are absolutely rediculous. EVERY nite it degrades to one country getting swamped by the two other ones.  If its not the Bishops, its the Rooks, if its not the rooks its the Knights.  ALL OF US regardless of country have had to go through these one sided affairs of being gangbanged, outnumbered and forced to up from unsupplied fields.

I enjoy the good dogfite...I will even dive my Stang down into a small furball and turn and burn a bit knowing that Im gonna die just for the excitement.  When Bishops have to put up with being outnumbered 2 to 1 and have 4 bases left, there is no excitement.  Only frustration.  I dive into a fite only to have some meanderer who is higher dive in after me to finish me off. :/

Its WAY too easy now to get two countries to gang up on another and when that happens, its NO FUN for that country gettin hit.  There just arent enough people online to average out even teams at all times of the day and when this game goes pay to play, its only going to get worse.

Isnt there SOME WAY we can get rid of one of the side and make it a 2 way war??  Thats bound to be more fun that this current setup.

Dingy-

I tend to agree with you. I wish we could do the 2-side war. Of course, I wish it was Axis/Allies too, but I will wait and see.

Didn't like 3-side in DoA, don't really like it now... but otherwise enjoying the sim very much!

Condor...Great to see you!!

I think your mates will like this one...flying model is good, there are buffs that u can gun...and once the vehicles and such get added the jabo should be fun, right now its suicide though.  Man, its good to see you give this a try, FA2 was way to laggy for me..could never get it to work right.  Give me a yell when you're on, and we'll hook up rw and do some winging.

Dingy..I agree with you on the 2 vs 3 country thing...I was on the fence for a while, but I'm thinking 2 countries is the way to go, but I'm still gonna stay when it goes pay

Thanks to all for the possitive feedback and please keep it coming.  I have been flying it and I do like it.  However, as in life, nothing fits exactly the way you want it.  Based on my FA2 experience and the game surfing I've been doing between them, this is a surface comparison of what I like and dislike in each;
FA2 Like the different realworld countries instead of some kind of mythical Rook.  What do you say?, The Rookians are coming, The Rookians are coming?, LOL  Benefit ofcourse is that you can then model airplanes exactly and nobody accuses anybody of overmodeling the GB side, LOL again!
FA2 Like flying completely tagless which ofcourse isn't possible when your friends could be flying anything.
AH Like what appears to be very realistic flight modelling vs. P51's in FA2 that climb like Cessna 150's
AH Like the smoothness of play vs. jerky, laggy framerates in FA2 and the proverbial disconnects since FA2 came out.
AH Like what I perceive to be a more involved management than with the partnership which is putting FA2 together.
FA2 like the $9.95/month price which is within the reach of most people vs. $29.95 which is going to keep a lot of people away.
FA2 Absolutely hate the stall spin modeling in advanced which is where I spend my time.  Haven't had a chance to try this out in AH just yet.
FA2 Love flying with the best squadron on the Zone and the camaraderie we have between
us and other squadron's members.  This would probably be the hardest thing to do.  I have however, invited them all to try AH and we'll see what the consensus is after a couple of weeks of dallying with the enemy, LOL.
Thanks
Beeg

Hey Beeg,
Thorns here......I've been flying Aces High with some of my Musketeer squadmates, and having the best combat flight sim time of my life.  We Musketeers have kinda split flight sims as some of us won't fly FA2 anymore.  Aces High ROCKS!  I've tried to get more people from FA2 into Aces High, but some people will drive whatever it takes to get from point A to B, and some will go in style.  Once they try Aces they are impressed.  Some subscribers are flyers and some are just players.  Some are hunters and some are hunted.  This is a flyers flight sim.  It's new and is changing every day, as the support from HiTech/Pyro & Crew is really great.  Price?  Some cars can run on cheap gas and some have to have the high octane.  This sim is Sonoco 260.  Get the "Tiger Squad" to check it out.  I think this is the flight sim your looking for.  I was turned off from Warbirds because of the high price.  $200.00 a month to fly online..
...your crazy I say.  Can't justify that money with the obligations I have.  But, $30.00 for a first class combat flight sim.....Yeah, I can do that.  I fly everyday and $1.00 for the great time I have flying with my friends is NOTHING!  Fighter Ace was my first combat flight sim, and the friendships will last a lifetime, but I love what Aces High gives me.....my fix.  I have met a lot of new people and some great flyers.  You Beeg have always been a worthy opponent.  Our dogfights have been some of the great ones.  I hope you and the Tiger Squad give Aces High a try.  I will look forward to seeing you again, and maybe we can hook up for a sortie or two.  Take care!

Ok. IT seems silly to have to tell someone what to like or why they should if they don't know. If it's not reaidly apparant why "AH" is heads way up above FA II, in just about every way, then you should stick to
what you like

Ok.
Here is what it boils down to.

Ready?

This is like the secret of life City Slickers thingy....

"Aces High"  is a prOfessional WWII air combat/flight sim.

"Fighter Ace II" has the Fisher Price label on the bottom - next to the warning about choking on small pieces.

And yet another chuckle today! Whether I agree or not, I do appreciate the visual here.
