Natural metal P-51B skin
« on: September 07, 2004, 10:25:21 AM »
My Labor Day weekend project- I just couldn't stop myself.   I'll have it up at the Skins Department later today.

This is Lt Calvin Allen Jr.'s P-51B from the 5th FS, 52nd FG, 15th AF flying out of Foggia, Italy in 1944.   Nice escort for B-24 raids to Ploesti....

Too bad HTC did such a poor job on the P-51B

A gallant effort.
I tried a P-51B skin and eventually succumbed to despair. I would rather have a reworked P-51B 3D model than a new airplane in AH2. For now I'll stick to 109's I guess...

I think I got around most of the pitfalls on the current 51B texture map, coyo.   If you get a chance, please download it from AH-Skins and take a closer look - these jpegs do not do the skin's detail justice.

I'm still a beginner a would appreciate tips.

Very nice 109, btw!

Natural skins are tough. I'm workin a Jug skin and lotsa stuff is being tossed nightly into the recycle bin.

Very tough.

Haven't found "it" yet.

Thanks Raptor, I'll take a look!

Yes it is a little clean, although we are missing some detail in the jpg.

Machnix did a great job of weathering bare metal on his P-51s = I'll have a closer look at them too.
