Just getting started and I need some advice on joysticks. I'm running Win 2000. Would like a stick with rudder twist on the stick. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks........

Most would probably say that Microsoft made the best joysticks in the low to mid price range... unfortunetly I say "made" because they stopped, if you can find one new I would give it a look since I haven't heard much if anything bad about them.

That leaves you with Logitech and Saitek and possibly Thrustmaster (not sure what their product line is off hand)
Ch Products has an excellent reputation but they don't have a twisty stick and a joystick alone will run you $100.

My impressions and what I've heard of Logitech is generally bad.  I think most people will advise you to stay away from them.  I had some input spike issues on the Logitech I had way back when.

Saitek seems to be kinda mixed bag.  I had a very good experience with their X36 HOTAS setup.  (The X45 is the current, non twisty though... I bought a $100 X36 refurbed by the manufacturer for $40 and it lasted me 3+ years)  Other people have reported problems with the hat switches after only a few months.  They do make a line of lower end sticks they may be worth looking into.  Also if you're left handed the Cyborg line can be setup to work left handed which is a plus.

Thrustmaster, I don't have any first hand experience here, nor do I really know what their current product line is.

Here's their websites.
Saitek
Logitech
Thrustmaster

*edit*  I should also add that all my experiences were with with Win98se or WinXP Pro if that matters.

i like the ms sidewinder precision sticks the best and i have tried several others.
i would not get a logitech, want last.

so i started buying the ms stick when ever i could find one to have a back up in case mine failed.

so far i still have my original stick i bought in 1997. and have bought several more. i have 5 now.

but it does not look like i will need that many. if you want one let me know i will let you have it for what i have in it.

MS Precision Pro Force Feedback...

Been using them 6 or 7 years... Never spikes, always smooth, Hats do wear out occasionally - I'm on #3.

I use logitech and I wouldn't ever recommend them to anyone.  In just over a year of playing this game I have been through 5 of them.  The only reason I keep getting them is because of Best Buy's return policy(the best). I just keep bringing it back and they let me get a new one.  The same problem of them losing center calibration is what went wrong on all of them.  Once it starts it takes no time at all for it to become useless.

Flash is that offer open to anyone?

the logitech sticks that i had before wear out quick. im now using the Saitek cyborg evo and i have to say that it is the best stick in the low price range. you can go to your local circuit city or best buy and pick one up.
