Oil cooler hits?
« on: October 15, 2000, 03:42:00 PM »
Hi

Watching Hangtime's and Camo's great dogfight got me thinking about this, how long do the planes take to loose engine power after the oil cooler is hit?
I know that the 109 and N1K2 loose it almost instantly, I think the 190 takes a bit more. And apparently the 51 and F4U take very long. How long does it take for Spit, Yak, LA5, 38, 47, 205 and any other fighter that you guys know the time for?

thanks GRUNHERZ

I guess I should start timing them.  I can't think of any reason that the 190 would have a longer time than the N1K2.

In general radial engines should have much longer times, with the R-2800 planes (P-47, F4U) having a distinct advantage due to very large oil tanks.  La-5FN, Fw 190A, and N1K2 have fairly similar engine designs and should have times between the R-2800's and the inlines.
