joystick key mapping question
« on: October 11, 2001, 04:50:00 PM »
Using the in game key mapping, is it possible, and if so, how to map 2 keys to create one function.  For example, hat DR "and" joystick A button to create a down and right view, so that I can reserve the DR on the hat for back/up/right?

Thanks!

I am not sure I understand exactly which views you are trying to create, but here is what I do and maybe you can apply it to your situation.

All hat functions are programmed for standard views (ie. forward right, right, back right, back, back left, left, forward left) except UP which I have set to forward-up.  I have programmed button 2 on my joystick to view UP.  This acts as a modifier to my hat views when using both at the same time.  So, if I use my hat to view "forward right" and simultaneously press button 2, I get "forward right up".

Hope this helps.

F.

But to answer your specific question...

not sure about others, but Saitek SGE will allow you to map a combination of keystrokes (e.g. 5 & 3), or even a series of keystrokes (O, F6 to open bomb doors and jump to the bombardier)...  these aren't limited to a pair of keystrokes, but can be quite long if you want.

What Furious has described is one way.

Another would be to set a button to Stick set. Then use the stick set function to alternate between flat views & up views.

The advantage is you can also use the stickset to alternate which guns fire, etc.

A bit trickier to setup in some respects perhaps.
