why fm-2 as opposed f4f?

and the p-38l is a pretty late '44 model subbing it for the p-38j is well, stretching it at this point, since mostly it'd have been p-38g/h's out then.

HMAS F6F

Is that a typo? Should it not be F4F?

It is indeed. It's now F4F.

As for the P-38 issue, it's noted. I've left the carriers as one fighter a side, and two fighters per land base. (P-38 & P-40 vs Ki-61 & Ki-84).

Should be perhaps one of our greatest setups.

Thanks Fork, I dont really know much about F6F delivery dates, and I know even less about FAA/RNAF/HMAS stuff, but I was curious how they got F6F's before we did. :)

RAAF never had the F6F actually, but they did have the F4F, P-40's, Spitfires, and P-51's.  Lucky catch. :)

FYI I and some others have done some test in ki84 and f4u-1 and f4u-1x planes.

No offense to Karnak, but I think some people are totally freaking out at the "slow" speed of the Ki84. It's going to kick butt.

In true combat situations, it is never how fast a plane can go, it's how fast it accelerates.

I haven't finished my acceleration tests yet for AHII, but something tells me this bird will be in the top 10-15. :aok

No offense taken.

I believe that we'll see a few changes to the Ki-84 in the next patch or two.  Not to its speed, but an increase to it's roll rate, better roll handling at speed, perhaps improved elevator control at speed, perhaps reduced climb and acceleration (particularly at altitude) and perhaps reduced turning capability.  Really the roll rate changes are all that I am comfortably sure of based on Pyro's comment about the roll rate being unrealistically low.

Once it's roll rate is better it will be much more usable.

Last night I was at the Furball Island in the MA and in a fight with a P-51D he dove away from me.  In the course of the dive I actually closed the range from D600 to D200 and when were leveled out on the deck at about 450mph he was not drawing away.  My controls were very heavy, but he didn't know what to do and pulled up into a climb, if he'd rolled and done a break turn there is no way I could have followed him.  As it was I was just able to pull up and stay with him.  As the airspeed dropped I easily shot him down.

We'll see how it goes.

Ok .... so is the first post describing the setup edited to accurately describe the setup? Is it cut and pasteable? Are we using the slot terrain?

The Ki-84 accelerates about as fast as the Spit V.. it might be a second or so slower or faster (slower is my guess), but it is right around there.

If the Allies do the typical bore n zoom stuff the Ki-84 is probably dogmeat, especially if they stick with the horde bore n zooming.. 1v1 it'd probably do alright till the Allied plane decided to run.
