New to AH questions

Where does everyone fly? For free? Is there a place to get scenario's or am I stuck flying against mindless circling drones and attacking random ground targets? I cannot recover from spins! I've tried opposite rudder same direction aileron chopped throttle nuetralized controls(All the normal recovery techniques) and I still auger in. Some help would be appreciated I am quite in the dark about alot of things about AH.

The circling drones are in offline mode. Hit the online button and create an account - the first 2 weeks are free. Apologies if you have allready done this. The select then Main Arena from the menu - voila...


As for stalls&spins. The basic premise is:
1. full opposite rudder to the direction of spin.
2. May need to apply forward stick to help
3. Shutting the throttle off can help
4. make sure your trim is neutral (or close to it).

After ya done that it should stop spinning, then neutralise the stick, then gradually re-apply throttle, and pull out gently.

Just to add to what Spatula said:

You will always need some forward stick.  Gravity is the best way to get speed back, so get that nose down.  No matter what your attitude, in AH you seem to ALWAYS need forward stick to recover a spin.  

After you try your 2 week trial online in the Main Arena you can either play 8 player Head to Head for free, or you can pay the subscription fee and enjoy shooting all of our butts out of the sky on an ongoing basis.

Glider pilot, spatula?  

In modern gliders you're normally taught to get out of the spin without pushing the stick forward unless you have to, as they're to clean aerodynamically that it's very easy to exceed VNE if you get the nose low.

This doesn't apply to huge, draggy fighters, though, so do push the stick forward for all you're worth in AH.

No, i have never flown a glider i would really like too tho   Flown a cessna 152 and a piper cherokee. When i think about it i normally press hard forward on stick (in AH) - just a reaction more than a planned action. But i have recovered without stick forward.

Hi Uther,
This is probably something of a cheat but a fairly foolproof way of recovering from a spin (Unless you are in an inverted spin in which case this won't work) is to just hit "Shift X" - This is the autopilot for angle (It will attempt to fly the plane in whatever attitude it is in at the time - Dive, Climb etc). If the nose is pointing down it will maintain that while attempting to cancel out the spin. (Works for me anyway).

Also dumping everything out into the slipstream (Flaps, Undercarraige wife, dog etc) sometimes helps

Sometimes given enough altitude if you shut off the eng u can recover very quickly, seems even at idle the eng is adding torque.
