Invasion Okinawa.

Fleets group at spawn.

C1 and C4 comprise TF 14

C2 and C5 comprise TF 25

C3 and C6 comprise TF 36

B24s launch from a19, form up and fly waypoints in order to soften defenses for the incoming fleets.

Escort takes off from a18 to link up with bombers as they enter the free-fire zone.

Fighter sweeps take off from a18 to sweep any potential bogies on the west side of the island.

TF 14 breaks off to attack/invade south east. TF 25 breaks off to attack/invade middle. TF 36 breaks off to attack/invade north east. Fleet cap assigned to defend fleet in the free-fire zone and strike aircraft sent in ahead to inflict further damage on top of that done by the B-24s.

Japanese defend with all assets throughout the free-fire zone.

Nice plan, well thought out. Problem is you can't put 2 cvs near each other, let alone 6 cvs, and expect it to 1) have any fps left or 2) be any fun for the enemy taking off to be shot down repeatedly by AI ack.

So either 1 y'all get bad FPS and it sucks or 2) the enemy doesn't even try to oppose you (so the fun you have is lessened, as there's no opposition)

Downsides: Your fleets can be killed easily by the enemy, they're not invulnerable.

I like how you link up the escort to the bombers, as it takes longer for bombers to climb out than fighters. You forgot to mention bombloads for the b24s and exact targets (i.e. "Take out all VH, FH, at field X, Y, and Z") and what alt the fighters will sweep, and what time fighters will up to meet the bombers (fighters get up faster, take less time)

I'd suggest an alt of at least 12k for the b24s. They climb rather well. I'd suggest breaking the fighters into 2 halves, the high sweep and low sweep. Make the low sweep at 7k and the high sweep at 15-17k.

Mind you this is all academic. These are just suggestions. Do what you feel best, and best of luck.

2 fleets don't seem so bad. I remember when AHII first came out that 2 fleets created such low FRs that it was completely impossible for me. Over time HT and Pyro et al have tweaked things on their end and I've tweaked things on my end that it pretty well takes 4 fleets to bog me to unplayable. Puffy ack hits aren't even as bad.

So yes, there was specific thought put into having the fleet sail to a point then having 2 TF elements split off to their designated targets. The main fleet should stay intact and relatively safe until it starts splitting up.

Now the puffy ack itself makes prolonged dogfighting over it too risky. Which, when you think about it, is sorta reasonable in a scenario atmosphere.

As far as the ease in which it takes to sink a fleet. That's what cap's job is. Intercept. And until the fleet is in position to invade, there should be plenty of cap. It's once the fleet is in position and the attack flights start poring in that it becomes more dangerous.

But 5" gunners are as deadly and accurate as they've ever been.

And are all the B-24s shot down at this time? How many fighters are still dealing with them and their escort (or even the fighter sweeps)?

So there's room for give and take.

Perhaps there are still some players suffereing massive FR hits. I'm not running a high end machine by today's standards.

My suggestions are:
  • Run at a reduced resolution and maximize monitor refresh rates. Mine is 800x600 @ a refresh rate of 100.
  • Reduce in game texture setting to 256.
  • pre-load art to either pc memory or video card (which ever supports the most memory).
  • When dealing with pure air to air combat, reduce range to middle or short.

I've found, though, that even with higher settings, the tweaks Pyro's done during the series of patches has made a vast improvement in my frame-rate. Again, I know it's not universal but for me it got better.

ATI 9600 256 meg vid
AMD XP 2000+ clocked @ 1.67 (factory default)
512 meg DDR SDRAM

Re: fleets and FR hits,

I can barely take 1 fleet near 1 land base. I use lower resolution, as you, but limit myself to 512 res, because 256 *really* looks like crap (lol), and because I really do appreciate the skins onmost craft, and like to see what I'm up against. Helps determine what mk 109 or 190 etc that I'm up against.

I don't have details set very high. I *don't* preload textures because it loads up my memory and then I get real slow when it's full (32MB card). I like being able to see some details further out, so I don't set everything down, but I've pulled back on the sliders to reduce them enough. I can usually get decent FR on most places. Exceptions are bad maps (too much details, trees, etc, at low alt) and too many objects (fields/cvs)

Edit: Specs

Ge 256 DDR (32MB) drivers = 53.03
PIII 650MHz
320 MB RAM

Stream, buddy, you left me hanging at a very critical moment. I was trying to get your attention to get you to help me get the ball rolling. Next thing I know you say "I'm outa here" and boom - mission scrubbed. Add people grabbing the fleets to take and beach wherever while I'm trying  to consolidate them and .... well, you get the pic.

I think this could have been a fun and challenging CT mission night. But we won't know until this particular set rotates back and we try again.

I blame myself, however. I couldn't get there until 9:30 pm central (missions generally start 30 mins earlier I believe). I guess I was hoping that others would start mingling and organizing before I got there. But .... well ... when you assume .....

Ahhhh, you see?  The plan to disrupt American operations is successful!  Even more important, we keep out the Austrailians!  Ummm, unless they want to setup Outback restaraunts.  Tired of Sushi.
