H2H Documentation?
« on: January 12, 2001, 10:50:00 AM »
I have searched the AH website in vain for step-by-step info on how to set up a multiplayer H2H session.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

zeno

Zeno, not sure if there is, but all you have to do is select HTH button, then you're prompted to select either HOST or SELECT, if HOST, then you give your 'session' a name, select the terrain you want to use, and submit it....if SELECT, then you select a game that is in session.  Very easy, and no documentation should be necessary.  All hosting is done via HTC server, then back to your computer as the "Master" if indeed you are hosting the session.

Good thing this thread came up, I got a question, too:

Do you need to have an account with "Aces High" in order to start a H2H-Game?

I just downloaded AH a few days ago and wanted to start a practice session with two computers at home. I selected "Host Game" and the game asked me for a user name and password. Naturally, since I haven't signed up I couldn't supply one.

Yes, you must have a username and password to play H2H, and you must connect to HTC's server to start the session. (IE: you can't play H2H on an isolated LAN)  However, you will not be required to pay for your account unless you use the online host and play in the main arena.  You do not need to give a credit card number or anything to create an account, so give it a shot.

I could be wrong but I think that your 2 free weeks of arena play will begin when you request for a callsign and password. Can anyone confirm this?

Would be a shame to waste the two weeks.

Yes, I believe that is true.

Your free two weeks online start when you set up your accout I believe.

It would be nice if you could "save" your 2 week trial and use it when you are ready.

Thanks for the info, Lephturn. I'll practice in offline-mode till my next vacation to make good use of my two week trial period.

Then I can play H2H with a friend of mine until I can convince my wife that $30 a month is a good investment

See you,

I agree with the "delayed 2 week trial" idea.

Many new people I have "flown" with would have prefered to use H2H as a squad or personal training area.

Then once they could "survive" they could enter the 2 week trial and get a real feel for what it's about, instead of spending the 2 weeks in "learning mode"
