Combined with your 'white screen lock up' thread in the technical forum, I would say you have some sort of driver issue going on with your system. My recommendations would be:
Update your OS to the latest 'critical files' updates.
Update your Video card drivers.
Ensure back ground apps are not running, and particularly 'Zone Alarm' if you have it.
Scandisk, then defrag.
Sidenote: I had a few lock up issues over the week-end after installing new sound card (SBLIVE) with the latest drivers from their website...after encountering these lock ups, I proceeded to uninstall everything related to SBLIVE, and re-installed it with the standard drivers the card came with (off CD rom that came with the card) and my problems cleared up.
I might add I had also used the Detonator 11.01 drivers, so I deleted them too, and went back to the 7.54 drivers that worked for me before the lock-up, since I had done both the SBLIVE drivers and Video drivers as the same time (bad idea) I didn't know which one was causing the lock-ups, but I suspect it was the latest drivers from SBLIVE's website.
